Job Description

Lumwana Mining Company seeks to recruit a highly motivated and committed employee for the position of Business Services Manager to join the versatile Maintenance Team. We are in search of individuals who can champion Barrick's DNA by:

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will be responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership of all non-technical support functions within the Maintenance Department. The role ensures that the maintenance operation runs efficiently by managing budget and cost control, CMMS data integrity, procurement and supply chain coordination, contract management, workforce administration, training compliance, performance reporting, and continuous improvement of business processes.

Your duties & Responsibilities will include but are not limited to the following: -

  • Develop, consolidate, and manage the annual maintenance budget (operating expenditure – OPEX; capital expenditure – CAPEX for maintenance-related projects).

  • Monitor actual vs. budgeted spent (Labour, parts, consumables, contracts, services) on a weekly/monthly basis.

  • Prepare monthly financial reports and variance analysis for maintenance leadership.

  • Identify and drive cost-saving initiatives without compromising safety or reliability (e.g., parts substitution, inventory optimization, contractor efficiency).

  • Approve purchase requisitions, contract variations, and invoice coding within delegated financial authority.

  • Work with supply chain and warehouse teams to optimize inventory levels, including management of critical spares, slow-moving items, and stock accuracy and Manage user access, role-based permissions, and CMMS training for maintenance personnel.

  • Lead CMMS upgrades, implementations, or integrations with other systems (ERP, telematics, condition monitoring).

  • Develop and deliver maintenance KPI dashboards (availability, MTBF, MTTR, cost per hour, schedule compliance, backlog) using tools like Power BI, Tableau, or Excel

  • Provide data-driven insights to reliability analysts and maintenance managers to support decision-making.

  • Track and report on maintenance department strategic initiatives and improvement projects

  • Manage procurement of maintenance goods and services (OEM parts, consumables, tooling, contractor labor).

  • Collaborate with maintenance planners, reliability engineers, finance, supply chain, and operational teams to achieve departmental objectives.

  • Monitor vendor performance and lead quarterly business reviews with key suppliers.

  • Manage maintenance department workforce planning (headcount, shift coverage, skills matrix, roster management).

  • Track and report training compliance (statutory certifications, OEM training, safety courses, trade qualifications).

  • Identify inefficiencies in maintenance business processes (work order flow, procurement approval, data entry, reporting) and implement improvements.

  • Implement digital solutions to automate manual processes (e.g., workflow approvals, automated report distribution).

  • Ensure maintenance business activities comply with site policies, financial delegations, audit requirements, and regulatory standards.

  • Support internal and external audits (financial, procurement, CMMS data, contractor management).

  • Communicate business performance, risks, and opportunities to maintenance leadership.

  • Represent maintenance department in site-wide business improvement forums and budget meetings.

  • Lead, coach, and develop a team of administrators, analysts, coordinators, and support personnel

  • Foster a service-oriented culture focused on supporting frontline maintenance execution

  • Develop, implement and maintain safe work procedures and promote high safety and health awareness.Promote and comply with the LMC Occupational Health & Safety Polic

    To be considered for the position, the applicant must have the following:

  • Minimum Degree in Mechanical/Business Administration, Engineering ,Supply Chain or related field.

  • Minimum ten (10) experience in a similar role within mining, heavy industry, or asset-intensive sectors.

  • Experience in managing costs and budgeting.

  • Proficiency in Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) such as SAP.

  • Demonstrated success in CMMS implementation, data cleanup, or performance reporting transformation.

  • Member of the Engineering Institute of Zambia.
