Under general supervision of the Chief Financial Officer (CFO), the Business Services Director provides leadership and guidance to ensure that conservative fiscal strategies and data driven solutions result in positive financial outcomes. This division includes oversite of the Enrollment Services, Claims and Finance, and Accounting departments. The Business Services Director is responsible to Maintain data integrity while collaborating with cross-functional teams to define data quality metrics and address data-related challenges & improvements in alignment with Lakeland Care, Inc’s (LCI) initiatives.

The activities of the Business Services Director are strategic while also requiring collaboration with teams to measure and enhance business performance and allow for proactive data-driven decision making. In coordination with the Senior Leadership Team, the Business Services Director will strive to develop a high-performance, person-first culture focused on quality services to members and stakeholders. May perform personally or through subordinate personnel the duties outlined below:

Essential Competencies:

  • Set clearly defined goals and overall objectives for the Division/Departments in line with the priorities of LCI and hold oneself accountable for personal contributions and overall performance.
  • Ensure staff accountability to performance standards and expectations by recognizing employees meeting and exceeding standards and addressing employees not meeting expectations.
  • Make or support difficult or unpopular decisions when they are in the best interest of LCI.
  • Ensure effective implementation of new practices, guidelines and procedures mandated by regulatory agencies or as identified or deemed necessary.
  • Gather and evaluate information that leads to sound, smart decisions and ensure that actions promote LCI’s strategic goals, align with LCI values, and comply with regulations and rules.
  • Demonstrate emotions appropriate to the situation and continue performing steadily and effectively.

  • Produce results through timely decision making and strategic implementation and evaluation of programs and policies.

  • Embrace innovation and consistently strive for efficiency and business improvement and maintain division’s effectiveness, quality, and morale during organizational change.

  • Demonstrate a passion for empowering and enabling individuals and groups to set their own goals, consistent with business strategy while inspiring collaboration and support for cross functional teams to accomplish long-term strategic goals.
  • Recognize staff potential and guide employees in developing skills by recommending appropriate training and sources of information.
  • Work with staff to develop individual development plans addressing employee needs and meeting organizational goals.

  • Create an environment that fosters open communication within and across organizational boundaries and convert controversial or sensitive situations into opportunities.
  • Apply the utmost discretion and judgement in dealing with highly sensitive issues, considering the potential risks resulting from improper use of information, and in compliance with applicable regulations, rules, and LCI’s policies.
  • Ensure the Executive Team is made aware of key operational issues, risks, and opportunities.
  • Communicate recommendations based on use of both qualitative and quantitative data.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration or related field, or equivalent combination of formal education and experience (includes knowledge, skills, and abilities).
  • Minimum of seven (7) years of related work experience, including data analysis, budgeting, finance, strategic planning, change leadership and continuous improvement.
  • Five (5) years of supervisory experience with at least two (2) years supervising those in leadership roles.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) preferred.
  • Knowledge of GAAP and GAAS.
  • Familiarity with actuarial concepts a plus.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint skills. Exposure to modern BI techniques and engineering is desired.
  • Ability to identify and define issues and opportunities, analyze, and interpret various sources of complex data, and draw valid conclusions to take appropriate action.
  • Demonstrated experience in creating & communicating data/reports/analysis to senior leadership & ability to explain complex analytical concepts. Ability to respond effectively to sensitive inquiries and situations and manage workload to aggressive deadlines.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate clearly and concisely with diverse sections of the general population and professional community.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • In addition, it is preferable for individuals in this position to have prior experience with Family Care; long-term managed care for the elderly and individuals with disabilities; health care; and/or human services.
  • Current driver’s license, acceptable driving record and proof of adequate insurance required.
