Job Description

Cargo Signal is hiring a Business Optimization Manager to find the work our teams still do by hand and make our systems do it instead. The role is deliberately blended: part business analyst, part product manager, part hands-on builder. You will sit with our billing, operations, and commercial teams, learn where their time actually goes, decide what can realistically be automated with the tools we already own, and then go build it.

This position exists because of a specific gap. We have no shortage of people who can execute a well-specified request, and very few who can walk into a messy, undefined problem, work out what is actually wrong, and propose a fix the business will adopt. We need both halves in one person. You will not be writing production software or shipping code to our platform. You will be working across APIs, SQL, low-code tooling, and AI automation to get real results out of the systems already in place.

You will start with a backlog we have already identified. Over time, we expect you to set that agenda yourself.

Key Responsibilities

• Partner with business teams to map how work is done today and identify the manual steps that cost the most time or introduce the most error.
• Turn those findings into a prioritized automation plan with a clear view of effort, impact, and sequence, then defend the priorities to the teams they affect.
• Build and maintain integrations between Cargo Signal's platforms using APIs, webhooks, and scheduled jobs.
• Write SQL against our BigQuery environment to answer operational questions, build reporting, and confirm that automations are behaving the way they were designed to.
• Configure and extend our low-code and SaaS platforms, including Retool and HubSpot, writing or adapting small pieces of custom JavaScript where the configuration screens run out of room.
• Apply AI and agentic automation capabilities inside the tools we already run, and keep current as those capabilities change.
• Own what you build after it launches: monitor it, measure whether it delivered the time or accuracy it promised, and iterate.
• Work inside corporate IT and security controls, delivering through approved applications rather than unmanaged desktop scripts, and finding a compliant path when the obvious one is closed.

Qualifications

• Three to five years in a business systems, business analyst, solutions, or technical product role where you owned outcomes rather than tickets.
• Hands-on experience building, consuming, and troubleshooting integrations between business systems.
• Strong SQL, including joins, aggregation, and window functions, with the ability to work in a cloud data warehouse without hand-holding.
• A track record of identifying a business problem yourself, designing a viable solution, and seeing it through to adoption.
• Enough technical range to be self-sufficient in a systems UI and to write or adapt a small piece of custom JavaScript when configuration alone will not finish the job. We are not hiring a software engineer, and we are not hiring someone who stops at the edge of the admin panel.
• The communication skill to run a discovery conversation with a non-technical team and then explain the proposed solution, its trade-offs, and its limits in business terms.
• Sound judgment about operating inside corporate security controls, including knowing when to escalate for an approved tool instead of routing around the guardrail.

Salary range: $120,000-$140,000
