This position oversees budget related activities and provides advanced administrative, operational, and analytical support to improve departmental effectiveness and efficiency. Responsibilities include managing projects, evaluating staffing and organizational needs, reviewing procedures and budgets, and recommending improvements to operations and services.

Within Natural Resources, the Business Operations Supervisor leads efforts to improve operational systems and establish consistent processes across the department. The role directly supervises front desk administrative services and collaborates with Visitor Services, Finance, Information Technology, and department leadership to identify needs and implement effective processes, technology, training, and guidance. While the position provides significant support to Visitor Services, it also leads or supports initiatives across other programs and divisions as departmental priorities evolve. Additional responsibilities include providing guidance and indirect supervision to staff and performing related duties as needed.

What you'll be doing:

  • Supervise assigned staff, including hiring, performance management, performance evaluations, and establishing performance standards, objectives, and goals.
  • Prepare, administer, and monitor operational budgets.
  • Oversee accounts payable (AP), general ledger (GL), and cash-handling activities.
  • Ensure administrative functions are effectively carried out across assigned organizational units and programs.
  • Establish, maintain, and evaluate systems, processes, and policies to support effective operations.
  • Identify and implement process improvements and best practices to enhance work quality, efficiency, and consistency.

What we're looking for

  • Knowledge of general office practices and administrative procedures.
  • Proficiency with common business software and applications, including word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software, and databases.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to read, understand, and apply department and County rules, regulations, policies, and standard operating procedures.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with County employees, representatives of other agencies and organizations, and members of the community.
  • Ability to maintain regular and predictable attendance.

Qualifications

All candidates will be screened for the following required minimum qualifications. Any candidate who does not meet all of the qualifications listed as required will be eliminated from the process.

  • Bachelor's Degree, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience, in Business Administration, Accounting, Public Administration, or a related field is required. Related education or experience may be substituted on a year for year basis.
  • Three (3) years' experience in a directly related field required, with one of those years as a supervisor.
  • Possess reliable transportation to be able to work in any County facility as needed and required.
