Minimum Qualifications:

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in accounting or medical billing or related field.
  • Proficiency in the use of computer applications; Microsoft Office, Excel and Internet.
  • Ability to determine work priorities, assign work and ensure proper and timely completion of work assignments.
  • Ability to understand and apply applicable rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work on multiple and complex projects, while maintaining strong organizational skills
  • Ability to problem-solve effectively and develop workable solutions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
  • Successful completion of the due diligence process to include, but not limited to, a Level II background check.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preference will be given to candidates with the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Business. Professional billing or accounting experience may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the preferred college education.
  • Experience in Long Term Care billing or Medical Health insurance billing.
  • Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid and 3rd party billing.
  • Strong accounts receivable collection experience.
  • Supervisory skills and experience.
  • Knowledge of State of Florida and Federal laws and rules regarding billing regulations.
  • Experience using State of Florida accounting systems: SAMAS/FLAIR, MFMP, and Works.

This is an independent professional financial position responsible for the timely billing and collection of all claims resulting from the long-term care services provided to veterans residing in the State Veterans’ Nursing Homes.

  • Ensures the Florida Department of Veterans’ Affairs (FDVA) remains in compliance with all State and Federal Billing regulations.
  • Manages and supervises the Accountant II position, responsible for the centralized third-party billing activities of State Veterans’ Homes Program and the Receptionist position, both full-time and OPS.
    • Training, support and back-up of staff.
    • Serves as team leader or team member on various project teams.
    • Coordinates and directs the work of other employees.
  • Coordinates the planning, developing, organizing, implementing, evaluating, and directing of the billing unit policies and procedures.
  • Interprets the facility’s policies and procedures, providing clarity and definition to office personnel.
  • Organizes, evaluates and monitors billing unit operations in accordance with established policies. Provides training, support and back-up for staff as needed.
  • Responsible for directing, supervising and monitoring Third Party Billing and Collections including, but not limited, to monthly billing Medicare A & B, Medicaid and Third-party insurers
    • Set up of veteran resident’s accounts
    • Timely posting of payments for all third-party payers
    • Research and resubmitting of denied claims
    • Monthly review of aging reports to ensure timely collections, resubmission of claims for denial, and determination of accounts to be referred for collection
    • Cost Reports.
    • Identify credit balances, research and resolve (refunds or adjustments).
