Job Description

The Business Manager is a key member of the Management Team providing leadership to ensure the operational management and service delivery targets of the Directorate. The post holder will work on behalf of the Clinical Director and in conjunction with Directorate Nurse Manager as required.

The Business Manager will have responsibility for the following within his/her defined scope: -

  • Operational Management
  • Service Planning
  • Data & Performance Management
  • HR Management and Organisational Development
  • Quality Assurance and Risk Management

The Directorate concept focuses on:

  • Performance targets being met without disruption or crisis
  • Wasted activity and cost is eliminated
  • All staff and services providers are aware of what is expected of them and are confident both in themselves and their colleagues that it will be delivered
  • Ways of improving performance are constantly being sought, suggested, evaluated and implemented

The Business Manager will:

  • Provide business planning support to the Executive Management team at Connolly Hospital and Clinical Directorates in the operational and strategic development of Services at Connolly Hospital.
  • Provide leadership on all aspects of scheduled care, operational delivery, working in close collaboration with staff within scheduled care to achieve KPI’s.
  • Provide operational management of clinical administration staff and relevant areas as designated.
  • Ensure the delivery of high quality, efficient and cost-effective services across all scheduled care area
  • Assist in data driven action focused operational management process driving the continuous cycle of continuous improvement in the day-to-day management of scheduled care
  • Develop the relevant plans to ensure appropriate processes are embedded across the hospital to ensure timely patient access and successful delivery
  • Ensure management of scheduled care is in line with all agreed protocols and procedures
  • Supervision and management of staff ensuring that services are delivered efficiently and effectively
  • Make decisions in relation to service delivery on a daily basi
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with other departments and directorates
  • Continuously monitor existing procedures to ensure they comply with best practice and develop new/improved procedures where appropriate
  • Use all technology and equipment assigned and complete all essential training necessary
  • Commit to continuous professional development including completion of relevant internal training programmes available
  • Ensure new ways of working and delivering services in conjunction with administrative, clinical and operational colleagues
  • Participate in disciplinary and grievance issues for staff within the service area as necessary
  • Ensure the overall management of sickness and absence

Essential Criteria

Eligible applicants will be those who on the closing date for the competition:

5 years relevant senior administration experience in an Acute Hospital or similar setting

And

2 years minimum of supervisory or management experience

Health

A candidate for and any person holding the office must be fully competent and capable of undertaking the duties attached to the office and be in a state of health such as would indicate a reasonable prospect of ability to render regular and efficient service.

Character

Each candidate for and any person holding the office must be of good character.

Post Specific Requirements:

  • Proficient in MS Office Suite and demonstrate depth and breadth of experience with use of databases.
  • Demonstrate depth and breadth of waiting list management and scheduled care experience.
  • Demonstrate depth and breadth of leading and delivering projects on time that are innovative and drive improvement in a health care setting or related service.
  • Demonstrate depth and breadth of experience of complex data interrogation and statistical analysis in a multi-faceted organisation including high level of accuracy and attention to detail, and the ability to deliver analytical outputs to a high standard.
  • Demonstrate depth and breadth of experience in supporting the delivery of change including managing and working collaboratively with multiple stakeholder.
