An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Offshore Wind Directorate for the role of Business Manager in the Strategy, Engagement & Business Management unit, on a 6 month temporary promotion or lateral transfer basis.

The successful candidate will play a key role in providing high level confidential support to the Director of Offshore Wind. They will ensure that effective systems are in place to manage the Director inbox and the diary and that they are maintained efficiently and effectively.

The post holder will report to the C1 Head of Unit.

Overview of Directorate

The Offshore Wind Directorate leads on policy and programmes related to offshore renewables, marine energy and sectoral marine planning, to support the continued growth of the offshore wind sector.

The Directorate’s core aim is to maximise the significant economic benefits from the growth of offshore renewables for Scotland’s economy, citizens and environment as we transition to net zero. We also have a key role in ensuring the balance of economic and environmental objectives, with other users of the marine environment.

We support the development of Scotland’s offshore wind economy by:

  • working across the public sector to deploy strategic investment in ports and supply chain that grows our manufacturing base, attracting capital, inward investment, driving economic growth and job creation;
  • demonstrating the potential role for marine energy in Scotland’s low carbon energy system;
  • delivering enabling programmes e.g. through the Energy Act to streamline consenting, improve regulatory certainty, and accelerate deployment;
  • managing the constraints and opportunities of Scotland’s transition to net zero through the sustainable expansion of offshore renewables, enabled by sectoral marine planning that provides clarity, reduces risk, and supports balanced use of the marine space.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the smooth running of the Director inbox and oversee the diary management function, ensuring that the Director’s preferences, views and requirements are known and adhered to by all colleagues across the Directorate.
  • Ensure that the information received into the Director mailbox is sifted and prioritised appropriately and the diary is managed efficiently.
  • Provide a link between the Directors, Deputy Directors and OSW colleagues, Private Office and other Energy Directorates, continually improving relationships with these key stakeholders and ensure Offshore Wind views are appropriately represented.
  • Co-ordinate Offshore Wind Directorate input to Corporate, Ministerial and wider cross-government commissions.
  • Provide secretariat for key meetings, collating and circulating papers, taking minutes where appropriate and chasing up action points within agreed timeframes.
  • Undertake any other appropriate duties as required to support the Director to enable them to fulfil their role.
  • Carry out all the duties with complete discretion and a high regard for confidentiality.

Person Specification

  • Experience of planning, organising and prioritising workloads to meet tight deadlines and the ability to work flexibly across the whole team if required.
  • An ability to produce clear and concise written material.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including working with a wide range of people and building positive relationships.
  • Able to improve performance and systems by adapting skills and resources to fast changing circumstances.

Working Pattern

This role is temporary position with an expected commitment of 6 months.

This post is a full-time role but we welcome applications from staff with different working patterns. Proposed working patterns will be assessed against the business requirements for this post.
