We're a passionate team of innovators and problem-solvers committed to making a difference in the lives of our customers. At IdeaTek, we value our employees and foster a culture of collaboration, growth, and community involvement.

A Day in the Life as a Business Installation Manager

As the Business Installation Manager you will lead a dedicated team of technicians connecting our business communities through high-quality fiber and voice solutions. You will oversee the deployment, configuration, and support of customer fiber connections and VoIP systems, ensuring that field operations run smoothly, safely, and efficiently.

Your day will be a mix of office planning and field collaboration. You will mentor your team, streamline technical documentation, strategize complex fiber-to-the-business (FTTB) and VoIP installations, and directly manage critical network and phone hardware inventories.

Location

This role operates primarily out of our Buhler, Kansas office, providing a balance between an office setting and active field management throughout the region.

What You'll Do

Key responsibilities include:

  • Direct and manage the day-to-day operations of Business Technicians deploying fiber-optic and VoIP solutions.
  • Supervise the installation, provisioning, splicing/testing protocols, and configuration of new and existing Fiber and VoIP customer systems. Review contracts, construction plans, and technical specs to orchestrate efficient deployments.
  • Serve as an escalation point for advanced technical support, ensuring prompt resolution of customer fiber connectivity, routing, and hardware issues.
  • Oversee the procurement, stocking, and management of fiber-optic equipment, Optical Network Terminal (ONT) hardware, phone hardware, and vital installation supplies.
  • Drive process improvement initiatives, special projects, and develop enduring documentation to streamline future customer service and fiber deployment interactions.
  • Ensure all field personnel follow safety protocols, including safely operating bucket trucks and splicing equipment, handling fiber safely, and adhering to standard technical guidelines.

What We're Looking For

To be considered for this role, you'll need the following required qualifications:

  • 4+ years of relevant telecommunications or field technical experience (with a strong background in fiber-optic deployment and/or VoIP).
  • Strong working knowledge of fiber-optic network architectures (GPON/Active Ethernet), digital phone systems (VoIP), analog phone/fax configurations, and data networking.
  • Proficiency in collaborative software platforms such as MS Office or Google Applications.
  • Valid driver’s license with an excellent driving record.
  • Ability to work in a variety of environments, including occasional outdoor field inspections, and lift up to 50 lbs.

What Will Help You Stand Out

  • Advanced certifications in fiber optics (e.g., FOA certifications) or network/VoIP systems management.
  • Proven track record of managing and scaling fiber/telecom field service teams within the telecommunications industry.
  • Experience managing complex outside plant (OSP) project layouts, splicing schedules, and deployment timelines.

Desired Attributes

Beyond qualifications, these attributes set our strongest team members apart:

  • Natural curiosity paired with analytical critical thinking to break down complex technical bottlenecks.
  • Innovative and solutions-oriented approach to overcoming operational obstacles.
  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to bridge technical concepts seamlessly across team members and customers.
  • Deep commitment to accuracy, precision, and high-quality workmanship.
  • A proactive leadership style that fosters accountability, urgency, and continuous skill growth.
