Job Description

The SME – Business & Financial Operations Specialist (Group 2) serves as a senior advisor supporting enterprise-level business process improvement, financial analysis, and operational efficiency initiatives.

This role is responsible for evaluating existing workflows, identifying performance gaps, analyzing business and financial data, and recommending improvements that enhance mission effectiveness, resource utilization, and program outcomes.

The Specialist provides expert guidance to leadership, contributes to strategic planning efforts, and supports initiatives that drive continuous process improvement across the organization.

Key Responsibilities


Business Process Improvement

  • Assess existing business processes, workflows, and organizational practices.
  • Identify inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and opportunities for optimization.
  • Develop recommendations, models, and implementation plans for improved performance.
  • Support the development of standard operating procedures (SOPs) and process documentation.

Financial & Operational Analysis

  • Conduct financial reviews, cost assessments, and resource utilization analyses.
  • Provide insights that support budgeting, forecasting, and financial planning.
  • Analyze trends, performance metrics, and operational data to support decision-making.
  • Prepare analytical reports, briefings, and recommendations for leadership.

Continuous Process Improvement Execution

  • Support continuous improvement initiatives aligned with enterprise goals.
  • Facilitate workshops, working groups, and stakeholder collaboration sessions.
  • Track improvement outcomes and measure impact using defined KPIs.

Strategic Support & Advisory

  • Advise leadership on business operations, performance drivers, and improvement strategies.
  • Support planning and prioritization of initiatives tied to mission needs.
  • Assist in aligning business operations with policy, compliance, and organizational objectives.

Collaboration & Communication

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, analysts, program managers, and mission partners.
  • Present findings and recommendations to senior stakeholders in clear, actionable formats.
  • Develop concise reports, dashboards, and executive briefings.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Economics, Operations, Industrial Engineering, or related field; Master’s preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience in business operations, financial analysis, process improvement, or related fields.
  • Demonstrated experience driving process optimization or organizational improvement initiatives.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and quantitative skills.
  • Secret Clearance

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting DoD or federal enterprise programs.
  • Knowledge of financial management, budgeting, acquisition, or resource planning.
  • Lean Six Sigma Green Belt or higher (Black Belt preferred).
  • Experience developing SOPs, dashboards, or performance metrics.
