Capital Power Corporation is currentlyseekingan innovative and results-oriented individual to join our Business Development Specialist, US Renewables team in the United States.
Reporting to the Sr Specialist, Business Development, US Renewables the Business Development Specialist, US Renewablesis responsible forsupporting the identification, evaluation, and execution of opportunities to develop oracquireutility-scale renewable energy assets, including wind, solar, and energy storage.
This role will contribute to project development and due diligence activities, collaborate across internal teams, and help build relationships with key market participants to support Capital Power’s growth strategy.
You will contribute to our team by:
Project & Business Development
Supporting the identification and evaluation of development and acquisition opportunities for renewable and energy storage projects
Assistingwith project development activities, including coordination of cross-functional teams (e.g., engineering, legal, finance, regulatory)
Contributing to due diligence efforts for potential investments and acquisitions
Market & Stakeholder Engagement
Building andmaintainingrelationships with developers, landowners, utilities, and other key stakeholders
Monitoring market trends, policy developments, and competitive activity to inform business development strategy
Supporting representation of the company at industry events and meetings
Investment & Financial Analysis
Assistingin financial modeling, project valuation, and risk analysis for development and acquisition opportunities
Supporting the preparation of business cases, investment memos, and presentations for internal stakeholders
Collaborating with finance and legal teams to assess project feasibility and commercial structures
Contract & Development Support
Supporting the negotiation of agreements such as power purchase agreements (PPAs), joint ventures, land agreements, and development arrangements
Assistingwith permitting, regulatory, and interconnection processes
Strategic Planning
Contributing to business plans, development strategies, and budget planning
Providing insights and analysis to support long-term growth objectives
What you will bring to the role:
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Finance, Economics, or a related discipline (MBA or graduate degree considered an asset).
3–6 years of relevant experience in business development, project development, project management, or energy/infrastructure sectors.
Experience in renewable energy (wind, solar, energy storage) or strong exposure to energy markets and project development processes.
Working knowledge of U.S. power markets, including ISO/RTO structures (e.g., ERCOT, PJM, MISO), and general market dynamics.
Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience supporting financial modeling, project valuation, or business case development.
Ability to coordinate and contribute effectively within cross-functional teams in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
Solid communication skills (written and verbal), including the ability to prepare presentations and clearly convey complex concepts.
Foundational understanding of commercial agreements and contracts (e.g., PPAs, land agreements, joint ventures) and exposure to negotiation processes.
Strong organizational and project coordination skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
Self-motivated, collaborative team player with a proactive mindset and a demonstrated interest in renewable energy and the evolving energy landscape.
Working Conditions:
Two rolesavailable one in Washington, DC and one in Pheonix, AZ
Up to 20–30% travelrequired
Additional Details:
Salary Range (Washington, DC only): 130,000 - 165,000 annual salary
Note: the specific salary will bedeterminedbased on the successful candidate’s qualifications, experience, and internal equity
This position is eligible for health care benefits, retirement programs, paid time off, and an annual bonus.
