Job Description

We are seeking a dynamic, proactive, and results-driven Business Development Representative (BDR) to drive pipeline growth for our Human Resource and Payroll (HRP) solutions within the South African market.

As a key member of the sales team, you will engage HR leaders, payroll managers, and business owners to understand their current HR and payroll environments, identify inefficiencies, and position our solutions (including Sage 300 People, VIP, and SBCPP) as strategic enablers of compliance, efficiency, and scalability.

You will work closely with Sales Account Executives (SAEs) and Marketing to convert inbound and outbound leads into qualified opportunities.

This position is a hybrid role and can be based in Durban, Cape Town, or Gauteng. TydeCo operates virtual offices across these regions, providing flexibility while maintaining strong team connectivity. The role will report to the Global Business Development Manager and may require occasional travel to other regions as needed.

Key Responsibilities

Lead Generation & Prospecting

  • Proactively generate new business opportunities through outbound calls, email campaigns, LinkedIn, and networking
  • Target South African businesses across key sectors (SME to mid-market)
  • Identify and engage key decision-makers (HR Directors, Payroll Managers, CFOs, CEOs)

Lead Qualification & Discovery

Conduct discovery conversations to understand:

  • Current HR and payroll systems
  • Compliance challenges (e.g., PAYE, UIF, SDL, POPIA)
  • Process inefficiencies and reporting gaps

Qualify opportunities using frameworks such as BANT or MEDDICC

Identify triggers such as company growth, regulatory pressure, or system limitations

Value Proposition & Positioning

Position HRP solutions as more than payroll systems:

  • Compliance assurance
  • Automation of HR processes
  • Improved workforce visibility and reporting

Clearly articulate ROI and risk mitigation benefits

Meeting Booking & Pipeline Development

  • Schedule qualified meetings and product demos for SAEs
  • Ensure detailed handover notes with clear context, pain points, and next steps
  • Maintain a consistent flow of high-quality opportunities.

Pipeline Management & CRM

  • Maintain accurate CRM records (Apollo | HubSpot)
  • Track all engagement activities and ensure timely follow-ups
  • Report on pipeline health, conversion rates, and performance metrics

Collaboration with Sales & Marketing

  • Align with marketing campaigns and initiatives
  • Provide feedback on messaging, objections, and market trends
  • Collaborate with SAEs on account-based strategies

Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

  • Qualified meetings and MQL’s booked per month
  • Lead-to-opportunity conversion rate
  • Pipeline value generated
  • Activity metrics (calls, emails, LinkedIn engagement)
  • Meeting attendance/show rate

Requirements

Qualifications

Experience

  • 2+ years in BDR/SDR, inside sales, or lead generation
  • Experience in HR, payroll, or software sales is advantageous
  • Strong understanding of South African business environment

Skills

  • Strong communication and objection-handling ability
  • Ability to engage HR and finance stakeholders confidently
  • Understanding of payroll and HR compliance landscape in SA
  • Highly organized and target-driven
  • Proven ability to meet or exceed lead generation targets.
  • Exceptional organizational skills, with a keen eye for detail and the ability to multitask effectively.

Preferred:

Diploma or Degree in:

o Business / Commerce

o HR / Industrial Psychology

o Marketing / Sales

In lieu of a degree, 4+ years of relevant experience will be considered.

Highly Advantageous:

  • Experience selling:

o HR and Payroll software – Sage 300 People

o ERP / financial systems – Sage Intacct

Work Environment:

Work can take place either in an open office setting or remote setting with the expectation to travel onsite based on business and management needs. This is a full-time position that requires the ability to work a flexible and regular full-time schedule. It requires the ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods of time and communicate effectively with a diverse audience in person, by phone and by computer.
