The Business Development & Marketing Specialist will support and advance the strategic priorities of Parker Poe’s Atlanta office, Education Industry Team, Education Practice Group, and other teams as assigned. This role focuses on executing business development and marketing initiatives that strengthen the firm’s profile in the market, deepen client relationships, and align with the firm’s overall strategy and brand.
The Specialist is an integral member of the Marketing, Business Development, and Practice Management team, working closely with attorneys, industry and practice teams, and marketing colleagues in a highly responsive, service-oriented environment that requires strong relationship management and the ability to anticipate needs.
This role requires strong judgment and adaptability, with the ability to support a dynamic group of attorneys and stakeholders with varying working styles and expectations in a fast-paced environment.
This is a non-exempt administrative position reporting to the Director of Marketing. The role typically follows a 37.5-hour work week, with additional hours, as needed.
Main Responsibilities
Business Development & Strategy
• Partner with attorneys and marketing leadership to support the development and execution of business development plans for the Atlanta office and assigned teams.
• Identify and support cross-selling and client development opportunities across practices and industries.
• Conduct research on prospective clients, industries, and market trends to inform strategic initiatives.
• Advise attorneys on business development activities that align with strategic priorities and provide strong return on investment.
• Build effective working relationships with attorneys and proactively anticipate needs, providing high-touch support aligned with individual working styles and priorities.
Client Events & Engagement
• Collaborate with Client Event Specialist and internal teams to plan, coordinate, and execute client events, including seminars, webinars, receptions, and networking events.
• Manage timelines, logistics, and communications related to events and sponsorships.
• Support and, as needed, host client-facing events in the Atlanta market.
• Leverage events and sponsorships to strengthen client relationships and expand market presence.
External Engagement & Sponsorships
• Evaluate and coordinate sponsorships with key industry, professional, and community organizations.
• Manage deliverables associated with sponsorships, including materials, registrations, and on-site support.
• Identify opportunities to increase visibility and engagement through strategic affiliations.
Client Relationship Management
• Support client development initiatives, including targeted client programs and relationship-building efforts.
• Maintain and update client and activity data within the firm’s CRM system (Intapp DealCloud).
• Assist in tracking engagement and supporting follow-up activities tied to business development efforts.
Marketing Content & Collateral
• Support the development and maintenance of marketing materials, including proposals, presentations, and pitch content.
• Contribute to website, social media, and communication content aligned with the firm’s brand and messaging.
• Assist with award submissions, directory entries, and thought leadership initiatives.
Brand & Operations Support
• Ensure marketing activities align with firm brand standards and strategic messaging.
• Assist in tracking budgets and managing expenses related to marketing and business development activities.
• Collaborate with Marketing Technology & Innovation and Knowledge Management teams to improve processes, including the use of AI tools.
• Support the Marketing and Business Development management team on firmwide and cross-functional initiatives, as needed.
Project Management
• Manage multiple projects with competing deadlines while maintaining a high level of accuracy and attention to detail.
• Coordinate across teams to ensure timely execution of initiatives.
• Respond to time-sensitive requests and shifting priorities with a high level of professionalism, responsiveness, and attention to detail.
Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree required and a minimum of three years of relevant experience in marketing, business development, or professional services; law firm experience preferred.
• Strong client service orientation with the ability to build trusted relationships with attorneys, colleagues, and external partners.
• Demonstrated ability to work with senior professionals or strong personalities, with the judgment, confidence, and professionalism to manage expectations and build trust.
• High level of responsiveness and service orientation, with the ability to anticipate needs and operate in a fast-paced, high-demand environment.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a focus on clarity and precision.
• Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.
• Self-starter with initiative and a proactive approach to problem-solving and execution.
• Adaptable and resourceful, with the ability to respond to shifting priorities and evolving tools and technologies.
• Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to process and act on information quickly.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook); experience with CRM systems such as Intapp DealCloud and design tools such as Canva is a plus.
