Job Description

The Wood Coatings Business Development Manager is responsible for evaluating current sales performance and researching and identifying ways in which Spectrum Paint Company can grow. An individual who can think on their feet, find solutions to problems, and is looking for a long-term career with opportunities to grow their salary.

The Wood Coatings Business Development Manager reports directly to the National Director of Wood Coatings.

Region: Virginia and Central North Carolina - This is not a remote position. Travel is required.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Research the latest in the business industry and create new opportunities to expand business.
  • Maintain and share professional knowledge through education, networking, events, and presentations
  • Drives market segment growth by proactively analyzing market conditions to achieve an increase in customers
  • Collaborate with the executive and sales team to ensure requirements are met, such as sales numbers and profit goals
  • Provide input to the corporate strategic planning process through market intelligence and analysis of the revenue/margin potential of new products
  • Give product recommendations, application instructions, and quote competitive pricing on coatings for the wood coatings field.
  • Focus on growing sales with existing commercial/manufacturing/business accounts through relationship-based sales techniques
  • Regularly communicate with Regional Sales Management regarding the status and progress of accounts.
  • Actively establish and build strong relationships with external and internal partners.
  • Achieve goals that support the company's strategic plan
  • Perform other related tasks and special projects as assigned

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong understanding of company products as well as business position and competition to keep business competitive
  • Excellent communication skills to engage with others, solid negotiating, and problem-solving skills
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage a multitude of projects while meeting deadlines
  • Track record of success and over-achievement of sales/growth targets in previous positions
  • Strong customer relationship management and customer retention skills
  • Ability to excel at product knowledge, presentation skills, and building client relationships
  • Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Commitment to ethical behavior and willingness to adhere to company policies
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to negotiate and close deals
  • Able to pass a background & MVR check
  • Must have a valid driver's license and a clean driving record
  • Territory management experience is a plus
