About the opportunity

We’re looking for a fixed term (up to 12 months) Business Development Manager to join De Beers Group during an exciting period of transformation. This is a unique opportunity to work across the full diamond value chain from mining to retail, identifying and delivering strategic investment opportunities that shape the future of our business. Importantly, we are open to candidates across a range of experience levels. Role Purpose

The Business Development Manager plays a pivotal role in driving strategic growth for De Beers Group across the diamond value chain. This role is responsible for identifying, developing, evaluating, and executing organic and inorganic growth opportunities, including acquisitions, disposals, joint ventures, and strategic partnerships. Operating at the centre of the business, the role collaborates across functions from mining to retail, to originate and deliver high-impact investment initiatives aligned to Group strategy. Depending on experience and capability, the successful candidate will operate with varying degrees of ownership: from supporting transaction delivery through to leading end-to-end business development strategy, stakeholder engagement, and execution.

Key Accountabilities

Strategy & Opportunity Development

  • Identify, originate, and prioritise business development opportunities aligned with De Beers strategy
  • Build and maintain a pipeline of investment and partnership opportunities across the value chain
  • Conduct market analysis to identify trends, risks, and growth opportunities
  • Translate strategic priorities into actionable business development initiatives

Transaction Execution & Delivery

  • Lead or support end-to-end execution of transactions (acquisitions, joint ventures, disposals, venture investments)
  • Develop robust business cases, including financial modelling, valuation, and risk assessment
  • Manage transaction processes including due diligence, negotiation, and deal structuring
  • Coordinate internal stakeholders and external advisors (investment banks, legal counsel, consultants)
  • Ensure compliance with governance, legal, and organisational standards

Stakeholder Management & Influence

  • Build and maintain relationships with internal senior leadership, ExCo, and functional teams
  • Engage external stakeholders including governments, partners, financial institutions, and advisors
  • Present insights, recommendations, and investment cases to senior governance forums
  • Influence decision-making through strong commercial insight and storytelling

Project Leadership & Delivery

  • Manage complex, cross-functional projects with clear milestones, accountability, and delivery discipline
  • Drive execution through collaboration with Strategy, Finance, Legal, Marketing, Innovation and Business Units
  • Improve ways of working through tools, processes, and prioritisation frameworks
  • Support post-transaction integration planning where relevant

Team Contribution & Leadership (Scaled by Level)

  • At more experienced levels:
    • Lead business development programmes and transaction teams
    • Coach and develop analysts and junior team members
    • Contribute to shaping the overall business development agenda
  • At earlier levels:
    • Support senior team members on project delivery and analysis
    • Take ownership of defined workstreams within transactions

Qualifications

Qualifications & Experience

  • Degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, or related discipline
  • Experience in business development, corporate development, or corporate finance (or advisory equivalent)
  • Strong track record of working on investment evaluation, transactions, or strategic projects

    Experience may vary by level:
    • Mid-level Demonstrated experience supporting or delivering transactions and financial analysis
    • Senior level Proven leadership in originating, structuring, and executing complex deals and influencing senior stakeholders

Technical & Commercial Skills

  • Strong financial modelling and valuation capability
  • Deep understanding of key financial metrics (EBITDA, cash flow, ROCE, etc.)
  • Ability to synthesise complex data into actionable insights
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including investment papers and Executive presentations
  • Strong negotiation and influencing capability

  • Strategic thinker with strong commercial acumen
  • High level of analytical rigour and sound judgement
  • Ability to operate in ambiguity and manage competing priorities
  • Strong collaboration and relationship-building skills

    • Demonstrated leadership of teams and complex initiatives
    • Ability to shape strategy and influence at Executive level
