You will own the commercial responsibility for developing relationships, both new and existing with the broad range of clients that Cambridge Consultants serves, from multinational blue-chip companies to ambitious well-funded startups.

This role has significant client contact, and you will use your knowledge, experience and network to engage with potential clients to find and drive opportunities where we can add disproportionate value to our clients and create and bring to market disruptive innovation.

You will define work programmes and develop the commercial approach to bids, ideally working “ahead of the RFP” where relevant to influence the innovation direction of bids. The brief is international though expected to initially focus in the UK.

Developing key client relationships and repeat business built on trust is the cornerstone of our commercial approach and your responsibilities will include an important element of client management during project delivery.

Responsibilities

  • As part of the commercial team in the Energy and Industrial Business Unit, you will work collaboratively to identify, engage and onboard new clients in the Energy and Industrial sector.
  • Initial focus areas will be in climate tech (typically targeting technology disruptors) and in industrial automation (targeting end user clients alongside tech disruptors).
  • Working with the sector leads, develop and own and execute engagement plans to onboard new clients and develop strong relationships with key individuals within client and potential client organisations to enable further sales opportunities
  • Work collaboratively with our technical teams throughout the client journey
  • Interact with teams across the whole of Cambridge Consultants to develop the best technology solutions to our clients to solve their problems or maximise their opportunities for market gain
  • Build and maintain a deep domain knowledge
  • Build business opportunities globally, predominantly in Europe but open to engaging in wider regions (North America or Asia-Pacific).

You will also use your strong technical skills to communicate what Cambridge Consultants can deliver to potential clients. Your background skills will also help you to make a significant contribution to the overall direction of development projects, often working on multiple projects at a time.

Our technical team is based in Cambridge, UK although there will also be frequent travel to conferences, events and clients sites.

Minimum requirements

Your career will likely have included experience in an R&D or design role. You will have responsibility for developing the commercial side of projects within the Energy and Industrial sectors and you will possess detailed domain knowledge.

Previous experience of working in a consultancy, technology disruptor to the sector or other ‘fee for service’ organisation would be an advantage.

Ideally you will have a successful track record of building business to deliver technical solutions / services in the sector and will have experience developing innovative development work for specific client needs.

To meet the requirements of this role you will have:

  • An excellent degree in a technical or science discipline is an advantage.
  • A passion for innovative technology solutions and for solving complex problems.
  • Comfortable with uncertainty and the ability to derive opportunity from ambiguous starting points.
