Activities

TotalEnergies' Community Solar team is seeking a Manager, M&A & Site Acquisition to build and manage a pipeline of Notice-to-Proceed (NTP) and pre-NTP community solar assets, and to lead early-stage site origination efforts across our core markets . This role sits at the intersection of business development, transaction execution, and land strategy, sourcing, evaluating, and closing on third-party development assets while also cultivating direct, greenfield site control opportunities that feed the development pipeline. The successful candidate will work closely with Development, Interconnection, Permitting, Legal, and Finance to convert sourced opportunities into bankable, NTP-ready projects.

Key Responsibilities

  • Source, screen, and underwrite acquisition opportunities for NTP and early development community solar/ FTM BESS projects from developers, brokers, and bilateral counterparties.
  • Build and maintain a live pipeline and tracking system of prospective acquisition targets, including stage, interconnection status, permitting status, program allocation, and indicative value.
  • Lead or co-lead commercial negotiations for LOIs, term sheets, and purchase/sale agreements (PSAs) in coordination with Legal and Finance.
  • Manage buy-side due diligence workstreams — interconnection queue position, permitting status, land control, program eligibility (e.g., Illinois Shines, NY VDER, MD/VA shared solar), and title/survey review — and synthesize findings into clear go/no-go recommendations for leadership.
  • Coordinate with Finance/Asset Management on valuation, IRR sensitivity, and deal structuring (asset purchase vs. equity/JV structures, milestone payments, holdbacks).
  • Lead closing mechanics and post-close transition of acquired assets into the internal development pipeline.

Cross-Functional Coordination & Risk Management

  • Partner with Legal to structure and close site control and acquisition agreements that protect the company's interests while remaining competitive in the market.
  • Work with Permitting, Interconnection, and Engineering teams to validate key milestones and risk flags prior to acquisition commitment.
  • Track and report on pipeline health, conversion rates, and deal economics to the Director and senior leadership on a regular cadence.
  • Maintain diligence files and audit-ready documentation to support internal governance, IC approvals, and external financing/tax equity processes.

Market & Pipeline Strategy

  • Monitor state-level community solar program developments (new program years, capacity allocations, tariff/rate changes) to prioritize origination and acquisition targets.
  • Develop and refine sourcing strategy and target criteria (minimum IRR, risk thresholds, program fit) in coordination with the Director, Community Solar.
  • Provide market intelligence on competitor activity, land pricing trends, and developer behavior to inform acquisition strategy.

Candidate Profile

Qualifications/Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Real Estate, Engineering, or related field; MBA or equivalent experience a plus.
  • 5+ years of experience in renewable energy development, land acquisition, real estate transactions, or M&A, with direct exposure to solar, wind, or storage project development.
  • Demonstrated experience negotiating and closing option agreements, leases, LOIs, or PSAs.
  • Strong financial acumen — comfortable evaluating project economics, IRR sensitivities, and deal structures.
  • Excellent negotiation, written, and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical and legal findings into clear, decision-ready summaries for leadership.
  • Self-directed and comfortable managing multiple parallel transactions in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
  • Working knowledge of interconnection processes, permitting requirements, and community solar program mechanics (e.g., Illinois Shines, NY VDER, MD/VA shared solar) or comparable DG/utility-scale experience.

Preferred

  • Existing network of community solar/DG developers, land brokers, or landowners in IL, VA, MD, NY, PA, or Midwest markets.
  • Familiarity with tax equity, project finance, or JV structures as they relate to asset acquisition timing (e.g., ITC/PTC deadlines).
  • Prior experience at a developer, IPP, or EPC with direct accountability for a sourcing or acquisition pipeline.

Core Competencies

  • Deal-making & negotiation
  • Risk identification and mitigation
  • Cross-functional collaboration (Legal, Finance, Permitting, Interconnection, Engineering)
  • Market and competitive intelligence
  • Organization and pipeline management under ambiguity
