Role Purpose: The purpose of this role is to actively pursue new business opportunities across our B2B English business, Teaching and Assessment and Schools Exams Services business. The role will cover a large market/geography or key industries, identifying new opportunities and prospects, reaching out to connect with them and managing inbound leads to qualify and convert these. There may also be team leader responsibilities in locations with larger teams.
Main Accountabilities:
Business Development
The role is responsible for identifying and engaging potential corporate clients through the effective use of target customer profiles, market intelligence, networking, and social selling activities. The postholder generates and nurtures new leads, responds to business opportunities and inbound enquiries within agreed service levels, and conducts initial needs analysis to understand customer requirements, intent, and potential opportunity size. Using established qualification frameworks, the role assesses and converts leads into sales opportunities, shares relevant products, services, and resources with prospective customers, and maintains regular engagement throughout the sales cycle to support conversion and business growth.
Leadership and Management
The role provides day-to-day supervision and support to Business Development Officers within Bangladesh as part of the Global Sales Capability function, monitoring performance against agreed objectives and targets. The postholder coordinates and organises meetings, events, webinars, marketing activities, and thought leadership initiatives to promote British Council products and services. The role also assigns, coordinates, and oversees the completion of routine activities by internal colleagues, suppliers, or contractors, ensuring tasks are delivered efficiently and to agreed quality and timeline standards.
Analysis and Reporting
The role is responsible for maintaining accurate client, sales, and market intelligence data within CRM and other business systems to support business insights and sales effectiveness. The postholder manages assigned leads through established CRM workflows, records and tracks prospecting activity, contributes to reporting on sales, service, and marketing performance, and undertakes research to identify new business opportunities. Working collaboratively with colleagues, the role reviews available data and performance trends to identify opportunities for continuous improvement and enhanced commercial outcomes.
Brand and Market Positioning
The role maintains a strong understanding of British Council English and Assessment products and services to present these effectively and accurately to prospective clients, demonstrating how they can meet customer needs and objectives. The postholder works closely with marketing colleagues to support the development of customer-focused messaging, campaigns, and sales collateral, and provides administrative and data support to facilitate the creation and distribution of high-quality marketing materials. Through these activities, the role contributes to strengthening the British Council’s market presence, brand reputation, and engagement with corporate customers.

• Proficiency in Microsoft office programs
Knowledge & Experience:
Minimum / Essential:
• 5+ years experience of sales and/or customer management
• Familiarity with Salesforce or use of similar CRM and prospecting tools
• Familiar with business and market intelligence
Desirable
• B2B Sales experience particularly with education and government sectors
Language Requirements
• Local language (e.g. Bangla) at C2 level for speaking and writing.
• English level at C1 speaking and writing
Education
• University degree or equivalent in a relevant subject or discipline
