Business Development Manager – Education & Skills Sector

Location: Remote & Lancaster

Salary: £30,000 – £36,000

Contract: Full-time | Permanent

About the Job

As a Business Development Manager, you will be responsible for identifying new opportunities, developing strategic partnerships, and growing revenue through effective sales and account management.

You will manage relationships with customers and stakeholders, develop sales strategies, and work closely with internal teams to maximise commercial opportunities.

This role is ideal for a commercially driven professional who enjoys consultative selling, relationship building, and managing complex sales cycles.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Generate new business opportunities across UK and international markets
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with customers, partners, and key decision-makers
  • Create and deliver sales strategies to achieve revenue and growth targets
  • Conduct presentations, demonstrations, and commercial meetings with prospective clients
  • Manage a sales pipeline using CRM systems and provide accurate forecasting
  • Identify opportunities for account growth, upselling, and cross-selling
  • Negotiate commercial agreements and support contract discussions
  • Work collaboratively with marketing teams to increase market engagement
  • Gather customer insights and competitor intelligence to support business decisions
  • Represent the organisation at conferences, exhibitions, and sector events
  • Maintain accurate sales reports and performance updates

The role will involve UK travel, occasional international travel, and flexibility to support customers across different locations.

Ideal Candidate

We are looking for an ambitious Business Development Manager, Sales Manager, Account Manager, or Commercial Manager with a strong track record of generating revenue and building long-term customer relationships.

You will have:

  • Proven experience in business development, sales, account management, or a similar commercial role
  • Successful experience achieving sales targets and driving revenue growth
  • Strong ability to identify opportunities and develop new customer relationships
  • Experience managing sales pipelines and CRM systems
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and presentation skills
  • Strong commercial awareness and consultative sales approach
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
  • Proactive, self-motivated, and results-focused mindset
  • Strong IT and digital skills

Desirable experience:

  • Background within education, training, qualifications, awarding organisations, or learning technology
  • Experience selling products or services into schools, colleges, training providers, or public sector organisations
  • Experience managing national or international accounts

A full UK driving licence and willingness to travel throughout the UK and internationally when required is essential.
