VDI (Vehicle Dealers International) Australia is a proudly Australian, family-owned business and the national distributor of Yutong buses and coaches. Yutong is the world’s largest manufacturer of buses, including the world’s number one battery electric city bus, the Yutong E12.

Due to continued growth, we are seeking a senior, commercially astute Business Development Manager – Fleet Sales to support the expansion of VDI’s national fleet portfolio.

The Role

Reporting to the National Sales Manager, this role is responsible for the development and execution of VDI’s fleet sales strategy across an allocated portfolio of fleet customers, including government, fleet management organisations (FMO), leasing and rental providers.

This is a senior, outward‑facing role focused on strategic growth, relationship leadership, and positioning VDI and Yutong as a partner of choice in the transition to zero‑emission transport.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute VDI’s fleet sales strategy, including ownership of an assigned and commercially balanced fleet portfolio
  • Professionally represent VDI across customers, government, industry and internal stakeholder groups
  • Build and maintain trusted, long‑term relationships with existing and new fleet customers
  • Identify and pursue new fleet opportunities, including FMOs, leasing and rental organisations
  • Lead strategic planning with regional Business Development Managers across shared fleet portfolios
  • Actively participate in tender submissions and complex contract negotiations, ensuring policy compliance
  • Facilitate vehicle trials and support customer evaluation and adoption of Yutong products
  • Lead, educate and advise customers transitioning to zero emission bus solutions
  • Deliver accurate performance reporting, CRM management, and short‑ and long‑term sales forecasting
  • Achieve fleet sales targets while pursuing sustainable, profitable growth
  • Collaborate closely with marketing, finance, operations, and business development teams
  • Support fleet integration, training, and post‑sale relationship management
  • Promote the VDI and Yutong brand at bus shows, conferences, regional seminars, and sponsored events
  • Share market and competitor intelligence across the organisation
  • Maintain strong ethical standards and ensure a consistently high level of customer satisfaction
  • Undertake regular travel, including interstate and occasional overseas travel

Skills, Experience & Attributes

  • Minimum five years’ experience in fleet sales or business development within bus, truck, automotive, heavy equipment, or a related sector
  • Proven ability to develop and execute strategic sales and account plans
  • Strong commercial acumen, including contract negotiation and tender management
  • Demonstrated success in building long‑term, senior customer relationships
  • Technical understanding of buses and the ability to advise on specifications and solutions
  • Strong CRM discipline and use of data and analytics to optimise portfolio performance
  • Excellent organisational, prioritisation, and stakeholder management skills
  • Knowledge of Australian licensing and regulatory requirements relevant to the bus industry
  • Experience working with sustainability and zero‑emission transport solutions highly regarded
  • High level of professionalism, integrity, and customer‑centric behaviour
  • Strong computer skills across MS Outlook, Word, and Excel
  • Current heavy vehicle driver’s licence
