Business Development Executive

This is a unique opportunity to build on our strong foundation. This role is focused on identifying and converting new business opportunities, building strong relationships with shippers, and driving freight volume across our brokerage network.

What You’ll Own
New Business Prospecting
• Hunting opportunities and designing solutions for Transportation and Customs Brokerage as well as Warehousing and eCommerce fulfillment.
• Generating new opportunities and converting prospects into long-term clients
• Engaging prospects through various channels securing meetings with shippers to sell truckload and other brokerage services.
• Prepare and deliver compelling sales presentations to potential clients.

Discovery, Negotiation, and Closure
• Demonstrating tremendous responsiveness to prospective clients during sales cycle, coordinating between client and internal Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to provide service and pricing proposals, as well as responding to clients’ feedback and pain points
• Supporting the preparation of finalized contracts and agreements for client signature
• Presenting competitive pricing and negotiating contracts with new and existing customers

Team Contributions
• Engaging internal SMEs for prospective client discovery, scoping of services, and quotation
• Participating in seamless hand-off of sourced new business to Management and Operations for service implementation
• Supporting issue resolution, claims, and escalations in partnership with operations
• Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives that enhance service and reduce costs
• Participating in the company Quality Management System, following, identifying and implementing improvements in processes and procedures

Strategy and Market Analysis
• Achieving sales targets and revenue goals for services
• Monitoring market trends, competitive landscape, and industry developments
• Analyzing existing client base opportunities to increase volume, revenue, and margin
• Contributing to the development and implementation of strategic plans to expand the company's customer base and market presence

What We’re Looking For
• 5+ years of experience in Sales, Logistics, Freight brokerage and/or transportation
• An established network of Shipper contacts
• Experience working with freight management or transportation systems
• Demonstrated success in prospecting, developing, and closing new business opportunities
• Advanced negotiation and problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate complex client situations
• Skilled at managing a dynamic sales pipeline, balancing multiple opportunities with discipline and focus
• Ability to build and maintain trusted relationships with clients, suppliers, and colleagues through professionalism, credibility, and integrity
• Self-starter with a strong sense of ownership and a focus on delivering measurable results
• Highly organized and adaptable, with the ability to prioritize effectively and perform under pressure in a deadline-driven environment
• Team-oriented and collaborative, with a proactive approach to working with cross-functional teams
• Strong business communication skills, with the ability to clearly convey ideas, influence decisions, and build relationships
• Intermediate to advanced skills in the use of Microsoft suite (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint)
• Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle is required as this role involves weekly in-office attendance and may require regular in-person meetings with clients and industry partners at their facilities
• Post secondary Degree or Diploma in Business, Logistics, Supply Chain Management or related field

Bonus Points
• Previous experience with Freight Forwarding, Customs Brokerage
• Proficiency in French, both written and spoken

Details That Matter
• Core Hours Monday to Friday, 8:30am – 5:00pm
• Reports To VP, Customs Brokerage and Logistics
• Supervises No direct reports
• Compensation
◦ Base salary range of $75,000 - $85,000
◦ Monthly commission
◦ Vehicle allowance in support of anticipated business development travel
• A hybrid role requiring reliable internet access and a private home workspace for focused work, client calls, and virtual meetings
• Expected regular travel to prospect new clients and visit existing clients
• 2-3 days/week in-office attendance at our head office in Acton, Ontario
• Occasional meeting attendance at our satellite locations in Guelph and London, Ontario
