Department Overview:
WiscAI is a Madison-based AI company. We build practical AI systems for real organizations, including manufacturers, universities, credit unions, and athletic departments, and we run an executive breakfast forum for Madison technology and marketing leaders.
Almost everything we build is for people who do not write code and never will. We are small, so anyone who joins works directly with the founder and takes on real responsibility early, and we care more about evidence of what you have actually done than about years of conventional experience.
Anticipated Start Date
8/10/26
Anticipated End Date
5/14/27
Anticipated Hours Per Week
15 to 20
Schedule:
Roughly 15 to 20 hours per week, with room for more for someone who has the time.
Several things run at once and priorities shift inside the week. Being reachable during the day matters as much as the total hours, because outreach lives or dies on timely replies, so the hours work best spread across the week rather than stacked into one or two days. Some early mornings on event days.
Much of the work is remote, but you need to be in Madison for meetings and events. If your fall class schedule looks tight, say so in your application and we will look at it together before either of us commits.
Salary/Wage Range:
Hourly $20.00 to $24.00

Job Duties:
WiscAI builds practical AI systems for real organizations. This role sits at the front of that: the partnerships we build, the outreach we do, and how many people know our name.
Three things make up most of the work.
Partnerships, on campus and off. You will build real relationships with academic departments, student organizations, companies, business and professional groups, and chambers. Find the ones worth knowing, write the first note, follow up until there is a meeting on the calendar, and keep those relationships alive over time. Some become clients. Some become partners who send people our way. Some become rooms we get invited into.
Brand visibility, which is a big part of this job. Plenty of people in Wisconsin have not heard of us yet, and changing that is largely going to be your work. LinkedIn every week for WiscAI and the founder, plus the other platforms where the people we want to reach actually spend time. You will decide what goes out, make it, and watch what works.
Getting AI to people who are not technical. Almost everything we build is for people who do not write code and never will. Marketers, operators, accountants, coaches, business owners, and students in every major except computer science. A big part of this role is telling that story and running the programs and events that put it in front of people.
Working next to the founder means you see how a company actually gets built, including the parts nobody puts in a case study. Which organizations are worth a relationship. What a first email to a stranger should say. Why one conversation turns into a client and another goes quiet.
You will not be easing in. This fall WiscAI is hosting a Madison stop on a nationally known marketing leader's book tour, alongside our recurring breakfast for Madison technology and marketing leaders. Filling those rooms, getting the right partners there, and following up afterward starts in your first week. Events are not the job. They are where the partnerships and the visibility show up in the same place on the same morning.
What you will do
What you will learn
Teaching you is part of the deal.
You will finish with meetings you set, partnerships you started, events you helped run, posts you wrote, and a Madison network that stays yours.
Qualifications:
Business sense and people sense matter more here than any line on a resume, and no technical background is required. Open to all majors. Marketing, journalism, communications, business, consumer science, and entrepreneurship students tend to fit this well.
Who this fits best: a senior with real room in their schedule, a recent graduate, or a graduate student. Recent graduates usually have the easiest time with the hours, and plenty of seniors make it work.
Application Instructions:
Email hello@wiscai.com with the subject Business Development and Marketing Assistant.
Tell us why this role interests you and a little about yourself. That is all we need.
Anything below is optional, and any of it helps us see how you actually work.
A resume is welcome but not required, and we are not asking for a cover letter. We would rather see one real thing you have done than a polished document.
If you are interested but not sure you qualify, write to us anyway and say what you are unsure about.
