About the role…

We are seeking a Business Systems Analyst to support and improve the way Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central is used across a growing engineering services group.

Ipsum is an acquisitive business, which means we often bring together entities with different systems, processes and ways of working. Some differences may be valid, but others may reflect historic local practice rather than the best approach for the wider group. This role will help us understand those differences, define the right future-state processes, and ensure Business Central changes are properly assessed before entering the development lifecycle.

Working closely with the Functional Lead, Development team and business stakeholders, you will act as a key link between operational teams and technical delivery. You will help ensure that requests are clearly understood, properly governed, and aligned to group-wide processes wherever possible.

Business Central underpins finance, project costing, procurement, operational reporting and wider business controls. You will play an important role in improving process consistency, change governance, user adoption and delivery quality across multiple entities.

As a Business Central Systems Analyst you will…

  • Lead workshops with Finance, Commercial, Operational and other business teams to understand current processes, pain points and desired outcomes
  • Map current-state and future-state processes across multiple entities, identifying where processes differ and why
  • Work with stakeholders to define process ownership, data ownership, governance responsibilities and approval routes
  • Assess whether change requests support the wider group operating model, or whether a local process should be aligned to standard group practice
  • Translate business needs into clear, structured functional specifications and build-ready documentation
  • Define expected outcomes, acceptance criteria, data impacts, reporting impacts, access requirements and control considerations
  • Sense-check whether existing Business Central functionality can support a requirement before new development is considered
  • Manage and maintain the Business Central enhancement backlog, ensuring requests are clearly categorised, prioritised and traceable
  • Track requests through the full lifecycle, from initial submission through to release and adoption
  • Coordinate testing activities and support user acceptance testing processes
  • Visit offices and work directly with users to understand how processes operate in practice
  • Support rollout of new or changed Business Central functionality, helping users understand what is changing and what they need to do
  • Act as a key contact for Business Central change communication, helping stakeholders understand progress, timelines, risks and dependencies
  • Maintain governance standards and support continuous improvement across ERP processes

About you…

You will have strong business analysis and process mapping experience, with the ability to turn unclear or locally focused requests into structured, well-governed requirements. You are confident working with stakeholders across different departments and entities, and you can challenge requirements constructively when a request may not support the wider group operating model.

You will be comfortable documenting how processes work today, defining how they should work in future, and identifying the ownership, data, reporting, access and control impacts of proposed changes. You do not need to be a developer, but you should be able to work effectively with technical teams and provide clear documentation that reduces ambiguity and rework.

Experience with Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central, or another ERP system, would be highly beneficial. Experience in engineering services, utilities, construction, infrastructure, field service, or another project-based environment would also be advantageous.

You will be structured, methodical and commercially aware, with strong communication skills and the confidence to work directly with users, including through workshops and site visits. You will also be comfortable supporting testing, rollout and user adoption activities as part of wider system change.
