About the Role

As a Business Analyst for our Legal, Compliance & Asset Services team you will support governance, operational risk, and project execution across Security Benefit’s Asset Services, Legal, and Compliance departments. The Business Analyst will coordinate, plan, and develop business analysis and requirements documentation that support departmental and enterprise projects, operational readiness initiatives, and process improvements. Working closely with business partners across multiple business units, this role will develop an understanding of their activities, priorities, and needs; coordinate cross-functional deliverables; and build the skills needed to independently lead business initiatives.

The Business Analyst position reports to the 2nd VP, Head of Asset Services and is based in our home office in Topeka, Kansas. SB associates work in a hybrid environment with both remote and on-site work.

  • Define business and system scope, objectives, and requirements by aligning business needs with applicable industry standards.
  • Design and refine procedures that address complex problems while considering system limitations, operating timelines, risks, and desired outcomes.
  • Analyze business and user needs, document requirements, and translate findings into clear business requirements and system specifications.
  • Serve as a technical and analytical resource across key phases of business analysis, working alongside business partners to identify root causes and develop solutions that address current and future needs.
  • Lead the analysis and resolution of escalated business, operational, and system issues.
  • Communicate complex issues and difficult decisions clearly, accurately, and promptly to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Develop practical recommendations through critical analysis, sound judgment, and risk-informed decision-making.
  • Lead initiatives that advance business strategy and improve operational processes.
  • Identify process, procedure, and control gaps and develop practical improvements in partnership with business stakeholders.
  • Build strong relationships with internal teams, business partners, vendors, and service providers across the organization.
  • Plan and facilitate stakeholder meetings that drive alignment, decision-making, accountability, and follow-through.

What We’re Looking For

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, Management Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • 0–5 years of experience in investment operations, financial services, business analysis, project support, or a related area.
  • Ability to support business analysis across multiple concurrent initiatives, including gathering, documenting, and validating functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills, including the ability to conduct business impact analysis, assess risks and dependencies, identify discrepancies, and recommend practical solutions.
  • Ability to review legal, compliance, financial, and operational information and translate complex discussions into concise findings, business requirements, procedures, and supporting documentation.
  • Strong relationship-building, facilitation, and communication skills, with the ability to influence requirements, lead cross-functional discussions, and clearly present information to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities, meet critical deadlines, maintain accuracy, and take ownership of assigned responsibilities.
  • Results-oriented and able to contribute effectively to complex projects, work independently when appropriate, and seek guidance when needed.
  • Willingness to learn and develop knowledge of financial services, investment operations, legal, compliance, and related business functions.
