Role Responsibilities

Are you someone who sees complexity and wants to simplify it? As a Business Analyst, you’ll play a critical role in improving how our Traffic Safety Services Division delivers essential services that Albertans rely on—like driver licensing, transportation safety, and public access to programs. Whether you’re leading a project or refining a key process, your work will contribute to more efficient government operations and better experiences for the people we serve.

In this role, you’ll support and lead divisional projects from planning through to implementation. Drawing on your skills in business analysis, process design, and continuous improvement, you’ll ensure that the Division’s work is efficient, aligned with legislative and policy requirements, and user focused. Reporting to the Business Operations and Modernization Manager and collaborating with Senior Business Advisors and team members across the organization, you’ll help bridge strategy and execution. You'll translate complex needs into clear solutions, ensure smooth change adoption, and support lasting improvements in how government services operate.

Your key responsibilities include:

• Leading projects from inception to completion, ensuring outcomes align with Divisional goals and deliver measurable improvements.
• Developing project documentation such as business cases, work plans, risk assessments, implementation plans, and post-project reviews.
• Facilitating stakeholder engagement sessions to elicit business needs, and translating findings into clear documentation, such as process maps and user guides.
• Redesigning workflows using Lean Six Sigma principles to increase clarity, eliminate inefficiencies, and improve service delivery.
• Coordinating change management and training activities that prepare users for new processes, tools, or technologies.
• Supporting business applications by assisting with user acceptance testing (UAT), maintenance planning, and troubleshooting.
• Ensuring business requirements are captured and reflected in system or process design, with attention to legislation, policy, and user needs.
• Collaborating across branches, divisions, and external partners to build consensus and maintain progress on complex, multi-stakeholder projects.

Qualifications

Required:

• A related university degree (e.g., Business, Finance, Data Science/Analytics, Information Technology, Economics, etc.) and a minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible related experience. Equivalencies may be considered.
• Applications without cover letters demonstrating how your skills and experience relate to the role will not be considered. It will be used to assess writing and communication skills.
• Proven experience leading projects from planning through to successful implementation.
• Strong skills in gathering and documenting business requirements in various formats (e.g., process maps, standard operating procedures, training materials).

Preferred:

• Training in Lean Six Sigma methodology and experience applying these principals.
• Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
• Experience supporting business applications and conducting user acceptance testing.

Equivalencies are:

• A related two-year diploma and a minimum of four (4) years of related experience; a related one-year certificate and a minimum of five (5) years of related experience; or a minimum of six (6) years of related experience in lieu of formal education.

Additional Position Details:

• This position is a permanent, full-time role with the standard weekly work hours of 36.25, Monday to Friday (8:15 am – 4:30 pm).
• Location: Twin Atria Building, 4999 98 Ave, Edmonton, AB T6B 2X3
• As this position is eligible to work from home up to two days per week once training is completed, the successful candidate will be required to work out of the Edmonton office for the rest of the week.
