What we’re looking for

The Business Analyst reports to the Senior Business Analyst and will join the strategy and technology delivery team, working alongside Programme Managers. You will be part of an exciting and growing global area within Pret with huge ambition, bringing together multi-disciplined small teams to deliver market-leading customer experiences. You will enjoy frequent communication with project stakeholders and be an active player in a flourishing technology community.

You will provide effective business analysis through the interaction, understanding, and review of both the existing systems and processes within Pret and how they might be affected by new systems and their implementation.

You will collaborate with various support centre teams, third-party suppliers, shops and franchise partners to design, build and implement solutions to business problems globally.

You will work across the full breadth of Pret’s project portfolio – from business process and systems change through to data and reporting initiatives such as our current data modernisation programme. The balance between these will shift over time as Pret’s priorities change, so we are looking for a versatile analyst who is comfortable moving between different types of projects rather than working to a single specialism.

Key responsibilities

  • Consult on the analysis of business opportunities and applications and interface with users to determine system needs and requirements, uncovering the underlying business issues that need to be addressed and discovering any information related to the project.
  • Analyse new business requirements by organising, specifying and modelling them to ensure that they are complete and unambiguous. You will ensure that the documentation of the requirements is in a layout and format that can be easily shared and understood by stakeholders.
  • Translate open-ended business asks – for example, “I need a number for the board” – into concrete, testable specifications with clear acceptance criteria.
Facilitate sessions with business stakeholders to map out current and future state business processes, identifying inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and opportunities for process improvement.
  • Create detailed diagrams and documentation that represent business processes, including inputs, outputs, data flows and system interactions, ensuring clarity and consistency in understanding across all stakeholders. You will validate and verify requirements, making sure that they map to the business need being addressed, are approved by all the appropriate stakeholders, and meet the relevant quality standards, including all financial controls, via stakeholder walkthroughs.
  • Support business teams in defining the benefits case, shaping ROI models and assessing solution options, working with delivery partners as required.
  • Liaise with the digital, data and engineering teams, as well as technology delivery partners, during the systems development life cycle.
  • Utilise quantitative and qualitative analysis techniques to measure the effectiveness of existing processes and identify areas for enhancement. Propose actionable process changes or enhancements based on analysis findings, aimed at improving efficiency, reducing costs, or enhancing service quality.
  • Verify that mapped processes and proposed improvements adhere to regulatory requirements, internal controls, and industry best practices.
  • Assist in the implementation of approved changes, including providing input on system requirements, participating in and running testing activities, and supporting change management efforts.
  • Coordinate user training in new capabilities and provide support as required on newly implemented systems through the early life support period.

Where projects involve data,

  • Translate business needs into clear specifications that the delivery, data engineering and QA / test teams can act on - including data definitions, source-to-target mappings, business rules and edge cases - captured as engineering-ready tickets with clear acceptance criteria.
  • Validate and reconcile new outputs against source and legacy systems, investigating and resolving discrepancies before sign-off.
  • Contribute to and maintain Pret’s metric catalogue / data dictionary so that definitions stay consistent as new data and metrics come online.
  • Perform gap analysis between current (as-is) and future (to-be) reporting, and support the decommissioning of legacy systems.
  • Plan and run user acceptance testing (UAT) with business stakeholders - including acceptance criteria, test scripts, defect tracking and sign-off - giving the business confidence to adopt new systems and reporting.
  • Act as a point of contact for business-side questions during and after delivery, and support Agile / sprint-based delivery ceremonies for the workstreams you are aligned to.

Experience and Skills required

  • Essential

    • Excellent understanding of retail systems and business analysis, business process mapping and engineering, coupled with at least 3 years of relevant domain experience.
    • Comprehensive knowledge of Business Process Model and Notation (BPMN) standards, with proven experience in utilising BPMN 2.0 for creating detailed, standardised business process diagrams that facilitate clear communication and understanding across all levels of the organisation.
    • Proven experience in the full life cycle of projects, including business change management and managing packages of work within a project.
    • Experience of multi-site, multi-country business requirements, with an understanding of Enterprise Planning systems across Food, Operations, HR and Finance functions.
    • Confident writing clear, well-structured requirements and specifications for delivery teams, and planning and running structured UAT through to sign-off.
    • Comfortable operating on data and reporting projects - understanding how data flows from source systems through to reporting, able to specify data and reporting requirements, and with an awareness of data modelling and AI concepts, technologies and applications.
    • Ability to work unsupervised; innovative and creative.
    • A problem solver and a strategic thinker.
    • Comfortable delivering to fixed programme milestones and cutover dates, making pragmatic prioritisation calls when requirements are still firming up.
    • Clear communication, both verbal and written, and the ability to influence and interact with different levels of stakeholders, delivery partners and franchise partners, with excellent presentation skills.
    • Proficient in PowerPoint, Excel, Visio, Confluence, Jira and Miro.

    Desirable (nice to have)

    • A technical background or genuine technical curiosity - for example, the ability to read or write basic SQL to sanity-check that the data behind a requirement looks right. This is a strong plus, but not a requirement: we are looking for an excellent business analyst who happens to have some technical depth, rather than a SQL or data specialist.
    • Exposure to modern data and BI environments -Analyst for example cloud data warehouses such as Snowflake, reporting tools such as Power BI, or dbt-based pipelines.
    • Experience writing source-to-target mappings, data definitions and metric / business rules.
    • Familiarity with Agile, sprint-based delivery.
    • BCS BA Diploma or an equivalent professional qualification.
    • Experience in retail, hospitality, QSR or comparable sectors.

The interview journey

Every interview process at Pret begins with the same two stages. First, you’ll have a relaxed 30-minute conversation with our recruitment team so we can get to know you and your experience. Next, you’ll be invited to a one-hour, in-person interview with the hiring manager at our Head Office in London Victoria.

Depending on the role and function, there may be additional stages. These could include time spent in one of our shops, completing a task, or meeting a senior leader.

Before you apply

This role is based at Pret’s Support Centre in London Victoria, where we work in a hybrid way - typically three days a week in the office.

We’d love to get to know you, not a robot, so please do not rely on AI to complete your application.

Please note: We are actively reviewing applications and interviewing candidates as they apply. Early applications are encouraged, as we may close the vacancy once a suitable candidate has been identified.
