Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Business Analyst to join BMO’s Capital Markets Controllership team to support financial reporting, governance, and strategic initiatives. This role will play a critical part in supporting month-end, quarter-end, and year-end financial close processes while delivering data-driven insights through reporting, dashboards, and analytics solutions.

The successful candidate will work closely with Finance, Accounting, and business stakeholders to consolidate, analyze, and report on financial performance, ensuring compliance with accounting standards and governance frameworks. This position is ideal for a detail-oriented professional with strong Power BI expertise, advanced Excel capabilities, and the ability to translate financial data into meaningful business insights.

Location: Toronto, ON (Hybrid – 2–3 days in office; anchor days Monday, Wednesday, every other Friday)
Contract Length: 4 Months (Extension or FTE Conversion Possible)
Hours: 8 AM–4 PM or 9 AM–5 PM EST (Flexible)
Pay Rate T4: $42.5 / IC: $48.9


RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Consolidate, analyze, and report on financial performance to support month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes.
  • Develop, maintain, and enhance Power BI dashboards and financial reporting tools to provide actionable insights.
  • Support the preparation of journal entries, reconciliations, financial statements, and reporting packages in accordance with accounting standards.
  • Gather, validate, and format data into regular and ad-hoc reports for assigned legal entities, business units, or financial groups.
  • Analyze financial results and provide recommendations to support decision-making and financial governance.
  • Support internal (corporate, SOX) and external audit processes by providing documentation and responding to inquiries.
  • Identify process improvement opportunities across accounting, finance, and operational workflows.
  • Track strategic initiative metrics and milestones; support implementation activities as required.
  • Act as a point of escalation for operational matters and issues outside established policies.
  • Collaborate with Finance, Accounting, and business stakeholders to ensure alignment with enterprise standards.
  • Utilize Copilot and AI tools effectively to enhance reporting, analysis, and productivity.
  • Execute routine financial tasks and service requests within defined service level agreements.
  • Organize and maintain accurate documentation to ensure data integrity and compliance.
  • Work independently on complex financial and reporting tasks requiring judgment and analytical rigor.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • 3–5 years of progressive experience in Business Analysis, Financial Reporting, or Finance/Accounting roles within banking or financial services.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Power BI, including dashboard development and system implementation.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, formulas, data analysis, reconciliation).
  • Experience working with AI tools such as Copilot, including effective prompt usage.
  • Demonstrated experience supporting financial close processes and governance frameworks.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and data-driven decision-making skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to present financial insights clearly.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders and influence outcomes.
  • Ability to work independently in a structured, deadline-driven environment.
  • Experience within Wealth Management or Capital Markets environments preferred.
  • Previous banking experience considered a strong asset.


Preferred:

  • Experience within Capital Markets or Wealth Management environments.
  • Prior experience in banking or regulated financial institutions.
  • Exposure to financial governance, SOX compliance, and audit processes.
  • Leadership or team coordination experience is an asset.
