Summary: Incumbent is responsible to ensure the safety of the children while boarding the bus, while on the bus and when exiting from the bus.
Major Responsibilities/Activities:
- Adhere to all safety rules established by the Transportation Regulations and other state laws.
- Adhere to all safety rules established by Enrichment Services Program.
- Ensure children are safe while being transported by ESP Head Start school buses.
- Ensure children are picked up and dropped off at same location unless a hardship request has been granted.
- Ensure Transportation Sign In/Sign Out form is signed each day – ensure person releasing child in the morning signs log and log is signed by parent or authorized person in the afternoon.
- Ensure authorized person’s identification is checked until identification has been established.
- Verify bus assignments.
- Become familiar with evacuation routes on bus in case of emergency.
- Maintain order on buses at all times.
- Ensure children remain seated at all times while bus is in operation.
- Ensure children who are not released at bus stops are returned safely to their center of origin and released to Center Manager or assigned Family Service Worker.
- Participate in professional development opportunities.
- Assist the Bus Driver with pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
- Maintain knowledge of bus route.
- Provide support to substitute Bus Drivers with bus routes.
- Assist children with boarding and exiting the bus.
- Document communication with parents regarding services, on the contact log.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- High School Diploma or General Education Degree (G.E.D.).
- Six (6) months related experience and training.
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
Essential Mental Functions:
- Ability to communicate effectively with parents, staff and children.
Essential Physical Functions:
Incumbent is regularly required to walk, sit, and use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk and hear.  Occasionally required to stand, climb, balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.  Frequently required to sit between one (1) to four (4) hours and stand from one-half (1/2) to one (1) hour duration.
Bus monitors are not required to sit any longer than 1-1.25 hours.
Regularly lift and/or move up to fifteen (15) pounds and frequently lift and/or move up to twenty five (25) pounds.  Specific vision abilities required including close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
