In the course of a year, we provide more than 3,000 children, ages 6 weeks through Pre-K with high-quality literacy and STEAM-infused learning; give 58,000 youth and teens access to sports, aquatics, day and resident camps, teen leadership development programs, and employment opportunities; provide over 200,000 members with programs, services, and facilities to enjoy connection and maintain wellness regardless of age; and engage over 25,000 volunteers and donors from across Atlanta to share in the gift of supporting their communities.

NATURE AND SCOPE:

Under direction of theAfterschool Director or Youth Development Director,the bus driveris responsible forthe safetransportationof all campers and staff whileinroute to and fromY Daycamplocations andoff-siteevents.

RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to):

  • Teach the basic skills of courtesy and safe driving to campers in a safe and respectful manner.

  • Take attendance and providesafetyinformation at the start of each trip.

  • Inspect the vehicle for all safety guidelines and regulations.

  • Follow all traffic regulations and guidelines and drive in a manner that ensures the safety of their passengers.

  • Carry out daily program tasks related directly to the position's scope and responsibility.

  • Maintain branch and association certifications in CPR, Metro AtlantaYMCA forNew Staff Orientation and Branch Emergency procedures and any other required certifications and/or training required by the Metro Atlanta YMCA.

  • Responsible formaintainingand reporting incident/accident paperwork.

  • Be able tomaintaina safe and healthy environment for staff and children

  • Be able to provide sound, caring and positive leadership for children

  • Provide, to everyone, extraordinary customer service

  • Be able to recognize and implement safety standards in all program activities

  • Have a good understanding of the mission and values of the YMCA and be able todemonstrateand teach based on those values

  • Communicate positively with parents and staff asrequired

  • Attend all staff camptraining

  • Must be able to pass a driving record check to drive for the YMCA

  • Attend the designated dates for camp staff training

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School DiplomaOR GED

  • 1+yearsofexperience working with children in a structured setting

  • Must be at least 21 years of age

  • Required certifications current First Aid/CPR; must obtainwithin30 daysof hire as well asany other certificationsrequiredfor the position

  • Pass a criminal background and drug screening check

  • Pass a Motor Vehicles Record Check and have own transportation 

  • CPR within30 daysof employment andmaintainthroughout employment

  • Exemplify YMCA ideals, leadership qualities

  • Excellent interpersonal,writtenand verbal communication skills

  • Strong customer service skills and personal commitment to service and hospitality.

  • Pass background checks, BFTS background checks, and drug screening

ERGONOMICS:

Ability to work actively while supervising children.  Ability to climb, walk, run, stoop, squat or kneel. Ability to lift and carry equipment toappropriate destinationsor affect the carrying of such equipment.  Ability to use senses which enable safe supervision including seeing and/or hearing.It'sfun to work in an organization where peopletruly BELIEVEin what they are doing!
