Job Location: YMCA of Greater Birmingham Corporate Office - Birmingham, AL 35203
The YMCA's focus is to strengthen communities through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility.
Provides safe transportation to and from program sites while maintaining a supportive and positive atmosphere. May also provide support in other areas as assigned. Provides a quality experience to members and guests focused on YMCA core values: honesty, respect, responsibility, and caring.
Essential Functions:
- Drives bus safely according to YMCA policies and procedures and state laws.
- Completes thorough before-and-after trip checks each day and records all information. Records gas level, mileage, and maintenance on designated forms. Cleans out the bus each day.
- Promotes safety at all times by keeping first aid supplies fully stocked.
- Ensures that bus rules are announced and followed.
- Develops friendly and positive relationships with all constituents, including, but not limited to, staff, volunteers, parents, and children.
- Communicates regularly with other staff members and supervisors.
- Attends all staff meetings and required training programs.
- Other duties and responsibilities assigned by the supervisor.
Employees and volunteers who directly supervise children and teens will:
• Adhere to policies related to boundaries with children and teens
• Attend required abuse risk management training annually
• Adhere to procedures for managing high-risk activities and supervising children and teens.
• Report suspicious or inappropriate behaviors and policy violations.
• Follow mandated abuse reporting requirements.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Must have a CDL license with passenger endorsement.
- A minimum of one year of work experience as a bus driver is preferred.
- Possess valid appropriate class license.
- Knowledge of the rules/guidelines related to commercial passenger vehicles (buses).
- Desire and ability to work with children.
- Successful completion of background screening
- Acquire and maintain the following certifications within 30 days of hire via YMCA, American Red Cross, American Heart Association, and American Health and Safety Institute (ASHI):
- - First Aid/CPR /AED (valid 2 years unless otherwise noted)
- Requisite Online Training Modules (completed prior to the start date and repeated annually).
Physical Demands:
- Ability to safely drive a bus for long periods of time.
- Ability to respond to emergency situations.
- Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity.
