Looking for a stable career where you’re supported to learn, grow and make a real difference every day? Want to be a part of keeping Brisbane moving? Consider driving with us!

Salary Range

  • Casual: $43.81 inclusive of 25% Casual Loading + superannuation
  • Temporary Full Time Traineeship (2 years): AUD $1,332 per week gross + superannuation
  • Penalties, overtime and allowances apply in addition to the above rate

About the Role

Brisbane City Council proudly operates one of Australia’s largest and most diverse bus networks. Our drivers play a vital role in keeping Brisbane connected, helping residents, commuters and visitors reach their destinations safely. This role offers independence on the road, supported by a welcoming and inclusive depot team, making it ideal for those who prefer not to work in an office environment and enjoy a change of scenery. You’ll be backed by our Network Coordination Centre and experienced teams across our seven depots: Carina, Garden City, Toowong, Sherwood, Willawong, Virginia and Eagle Farm.

We’re committed to making bus driving an accessible and rewarding career, offering paid training, ongoing support and long-term career opportunities in an essential, community focused role.

Whether you’re changing careers, returning to work or looking for stability, you’ll be supported from day one.

In this role, you will:

  • Safely transport passengers across Brisbane with care and professionalism
  • Deliver friendly, reliable customer service
  • Work independently while being supported by your depot and coordination teams
  • Contribute to a positive, safe and inclusive workplace

You’ll join a team who value customer service, autonomy and the satisfaction that comes from making a difference every day.

What We Offer:

Paid training – no bus licence required: We provide the training and support needed to obtain required licences and qualifications.

A supportive, collaborative team: You’ll be surrounded by colleagues and leaders who genuinely want you to succeed.

A career that fits real life: Job security, excellent benefits and opportunities to progress into depot operations, training or leadership roles.

Eligibility Requirements

  • Australian work rights
  • Australian ‘C’ class licence held for at least three years
  • Ability to obtain:
  • Driver Authorisation (‘GENR’ class)
  • HR licence (training provided)
  • Have a clean driving history (i.e. not lost more than six demerit points in the past three years, or had a suspended license or good behaviour period in the last four years, excluding SPER)
  • Availability Monday–Friday during the 8 week training program

Hear from our operators

“I like that my office view changes every day and I’m always learning new skills. The supportive environment and helpful colleagues make all the difference.” Pauline, Carina Depot

“When I started training, I was amazed and a little intimidated by the size of the buses. With the right support, I quickly became comfortable — now I miss driving when I’m not at work.” Mandy, Sherwood Depot

Expression of Interest Process

We use an Expression of Interest process to build a pool of future drivers for regular upcoming intakes. You’ll create a profile and upload your resume. If you’re a suitable candidate, our team will contact you when the next intake begins.
