Project Overview:

The MOMENTUM Integrated Health Resilience (MIHR) Project, led by IMA World Health in collaboration with national partner, RCBIF, and funded by the U.S. Government, aims to improve maternal, newborn, and child health (MNCH) and nutrition outcomes in Burundi through an evidence-based integrated package of MNCH, Nutrition, and Immunization services at community and facility levels. MIHR and local partners will work alongside district health officials to develop contingency and early warning plans for infectious disease outbreaks and design a proactive, multisectoral approach for detection, response, and recovery. This project contributes to three key intermediate results: (1) increased access to and utilization of high-quality, integrated health, nutrition, and WASH services, (2) strengthened partnerships with local organizations to deliver lifesaving services, and (3) Improved adaptive management to prevent, detect, and respond to health emergencies.

The project will start in the southern province of Burunga in four proposed communes (Makamba, Rumonge, Buriri and Rutana), in collaboration with provincial/district health officials prioritizing highest need (absence of other MNCH partners, highest numbers of assisted deliveries and under 5 children, and lagging MNCH indicators). The eastern and southern regions of Burundi have a significant need for health and nutrition services due to high rates of malnutrition, poor access to healthcare, and food insecurity.

Job Brief:

This position will be an employee of Corus International.

This position is for MOMENTUM Integrated This position is for MOMENTUM Integrated Health Resilience (MIHR), a USG/DoS funded development project to be implemented in Burundi, by IMA World Health and the national implementing partner, RCBIF. IMA World Health is seeking a Technical Senior Manager, MNCH & Nutrition for MNCH, Nutrition services, and Quality of Care to provide overall technical oversight for the design and implementation of the MIHR-Burundi Project focused on delivering life-saving MNCH and Nutrition interventions in public and private health facilities and in the communities in the province of Burunga in the four communes of Makamba, Rumonge, Buriri and and Rutana),

The Technical Senior Manager, MNCH & Nutrition will develop and adapt, as needed, project-wide strategies to improve access to and quality of services through the implementation of evidence-based high-impact interventions. She/he will work with project colleagues from RCBIF and other relevant stakeholders to ensure the appropriate integration of technical services and approaches consistent with the project objectives. The Technical Senior Manager, MNCH & Nutrition will build relationships and collaborate closely with the Ministry and District of Health officials at various levels of the system, as well as with other coordinating partners.

The position will be based in Bujumbura, Burundi and will report to the Project Director. The Technical Senior Manager, MNCH & Nutrition will be expected to visit project sites frequently.

The position is open to Burundian nationals and citizens of the member states of the CEPGL (Economic Community of the Great Lakes Countries) with a valid work permit. The Technical Senior Manager will receive salary, benefits, and allowances commiserate with Burundian nationals.

Responsibilities:

· Provide technical leadership on the work planning technical implementation guidance, and monitoring of MNCH and Nutrition activities at health facilities and in the communities.

· Liaise closely with the RCBIF technical staff to plan and implement all project activities.

· Ensure that the implementation of activities by partners mobilized by the project implementers RCBIF and others (consultants, local NGOs, etc.) is of high quality, on time, and in accordance with the approved project work plan objectives and USG/DOS and IMA standards.

· Identify technical gaps and needs, and along with the Project Director and develop plans to address them.

· Support the technical aspects of the project, including capacity building for staff and partners while providing staff with general technical guidance and advice tailored to the expected project results.

· Support the planning and monitoring of project work plans and budgets.

· Contribute to the development and monitoring and evaluation (M&E) plan and other M&E tools and systems.

· Contribute to the development of technical activities, including work plan development, technical reports, and updates in line with the MIHR and DOS reporting timelines.

· Represent the project at relevant coordination meetings (cluster and sub-cluster meetings, thematic working groups at different levels of the health pyramid, etc.).

· Support the process of identifying, documenting, and sharing best practices and project successes

· Support and maintain protocols, instruments, datasets, manuals, training materials, and reports related to the area of ​​technical expertise.

Education & Experience:

  • Advanced degree (MD, MPH, MSc, or equivalent) in Nutrition, Public Health, or related field.
  • At least 7years of experience designing and implementing integrated MNCH & Nutrition services in Burundi or comparable settings, including clinical experience and experience managing or implementing an internationally funded health project.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong clinical knowledge and skills providing technical assistance and capacity building on high impact practices such as: ANC, EmONC, HBB, ENC, KMC, PSBI, IMCI, iCCM, PDA, Immunization, and Nutrition interventions.
  • Strong quantitative, qualitative, and analytical skills, and the ability to present technical information clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Excellent communication skills, particularly in written and oral presentations; demonstrated ability to develop and communicate a shared vision among diverse stakeholders.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills proficiency in French Fluency in English language is a significant added advantage
  • Ability to travel to project sites in Burundi

Working Conditions, Travel and Environment:

  • Corus has an in-person work policy, [with all employees reporting to the office Monday through Friday. The employee must be available to work outside normal office hours or on the weekends, as required.
  • This position must be able to travel as required for standard domestic and international business purposes. While performing the duties of this job in different locations, the employee may be exposed to precarious settings under high-security risks and/or very basic living conditions and outside weather conditions, as well as to infectious diseases.
  • This position must have authorization to work in Burundi.
