Bulk Picker / Material Handling Equipment (MHE) Operator

Location: AB1 Distribution Centre

Shift: Monday to Friday – 5:30AM-2PM

Wage: $23.06/hour

Position Summary

Pet Valu's AB1 Distribution Centre is seeking reliable, safety-focused, and hardworking individuals to join our Day Shift team as Bulk Pickers / MHE Operators. This role is responsible for accurately selecting and transporting product throughout the warehouse using a Double Pallet Jack, building store orders, supporting outbound loading operations, and assisting with general warehouse functions.

Successful candidates must be comfortable performing physically demanding work, including consistently lifting products weighing 50 lbs or more throughout the shift. Team members will also be required to support our Accessories Picking Department and other warehouse areas as business needs dictate.

Key Responsibilities

  • Accurately pick bulk product to fulfill store orders.
  • Safely operate a Double Pallet Jack while following all equipment operating procedures.
  • Consistently lift, carry, stack, and move products weighing 50 lbs+ throughout the shift.
  • Build safe, stable, and accurate pallets for shipment.
  • Utilize RF scanners and the Warehouse Management System (WMS) to complete picking transactions.
  • Support outbound loading operations as required.
  • Wrap completed pallets to ensure product is secure, stable, and shipment-ready.
  • Stage pallets for loading while maintaining safety and quality standards.
  • Verify pallets are wrapped, labeled, and prepared according to operational requirements.
  • Assist with trailer loading and other shipping department activities as needed.
  • Support the Accessories Picking Department during periods of increased volume or operational demand.
  • Identify and report inventory discrepancies, product damages, or safety concerns.
  • Maintain productivity, quality, and accuracy standards.
  • Adhere to established Best Methods and operating procedures.
  • Support general warehouse duties, housekeeping, and special projects as assigned.

Qualifications & Skills

  • Previous warehouse picking experience preferred.
  • Experience operating a Double Pallet Jack is considered an asset.
  • Experience using RF scanners and Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) preferred.
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety and safe material handling practices.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and as part of a team.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to inventory accuracy.
  • Dependable with excellent attendance and punctuality.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced distribution environment.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to consistently lift, carry, push, and pull products weighing 50 lbs or more throughout the entire shift.
  • Ability to manually handle heavy and bulky products safely and efficiently.
  • Ability to walk, stand, bend, twist, reach, and perform repetitive physical tasks for extended periods.
  • Capable of supporting pallet wrapping, trailer loading, and other physically demanding shipping activities.
  • Comfortable working around moving equipment and warehouse traffic.
  • Ability to meet the physical demands of a fast-paced distribution centre environment.

  • Maintain a sense of urgency while balancing safety, quality, and productivity expectations.
  • Remain flexible and adapt to changing operational priorities.
  • Maintain reliable attendance and arrive prepared for each scheduled shift.
  • Contribute to a positive, engaged, and team-oriented workplace culture.
