Summary

The South Carolina Governor’s School for Science and Mathematics (GSSM) seeks a General Maintenance Technician. This is a permanent, full-time (12-month position, with benefits provided through the State of South Carolina. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience.

The Building/Grounds Specialist III will serve as a landscaper for the South Carolina Governor's School for Science and Mathematics and is primarily responsible for the maintenance and enhancement of the institution's landscape and grounds.

Responsibilities of the Administrative Assistant:

  • Plans, coordinates, and performs comprehensive landscaping and grounds maintenance activities to ensure the school's campus remains attractive, well maintained, safe, and conductive to institution's educational and operational needs.
  • Develops and implements annual landscape plans, including the selection and procurement of appropriate trees, shrubs, perennials, annuals, bulbs, and other plant materials, while planning and coordinating landscaping projects.
  • Maintains the health and appearance of campus vegetation through regular watering, irrigation system maintenance, fertilization, pruning, trimming, mowing, weed control, pest management, and monitoring of plant and landscape conditions.
  • Maintains lawns, flower beds, planters' trees, shrubs, and other landscaped areas through seasonal planting, mulching, pine straw installation, leaf removal, debris removal, and other routine groundskeeping activities.
  • Performs landscaping enhancements and routine maintenance projects, including maintaining flower beds and planters, replacing plants as needed, ensuring walkways and inclines remain free of weeds and debris, and maintaining a neat and aesthetically pleasing campus environment.
  • Provides general facilities support, including routine maintenance, construction and beautification projects, housekeeping assistance, and event setup and breakdown, and performs other duties as assigned.
  • Operates, maintains, and performs routine inspections of landscaping equipment, tools, vehicles, and related machinery.

Examples of duties

A high school diploma and custodial or groundskeeping experience directly related to the area of employment.

Additional Requirements:

  • Some weekend and evening work is required.
  • Must work outdoors in various weather conditions.
