Department of Campus RecreationJob Summary: Function is to perform all assigned custodial work and all assigned work in the conversion of the building from one setup to another, and all assigned work in the setup, moving and presentation of recreational activities, conferences, and other events in a large public event facility such as the ARC, CRCE and Ice Arena.

Duties & Responsibilities:Custodial Work: (65%)

  • Perform all custodial work required for the regular cleaning and upkeep of the building including floor care (wet/damp mopping, scrubbing, sweeping, vacuuming, and cleaning

carpet)

  • Dusting building furnishings; washing windows and other interior and exterior glass
  • Cleaning and servicing lavatories, toilet rooms, rest rooms, showers, and locker rooms
  • Emptying trash and removing cardboard for recycling
  • Snow removal from access areas; etc.Operate Equipment: (20%)
  • Operate equipment, such as floor scrubbers, buffers, snow blowers, rug shampooer, and other equipment related to the maintenance and cleanliness of offices and public assembly areas.Maintenance and Cleaning Equipment: (10%)
  • Inspect, care for, and clean all maintenance and cleaning equipment.Furniture and Equipment Moving: (5%)
  • Move furniture, supplies, props or other materials and equipment, and assist in the unloading and loading of same to and from trucks as required.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications:
  1. High school diploma or equivalent.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  1. Knowledge of cleaning solutions and custodial methods.
  2. Ability to comprehend and follow oral instructions.
  3. Ability to read and follow written instructions, directions, labeling, and measurements.
  4. Ability to exert muscle force to lift, push, pull, or carry objects.
  5. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
  6. Ability to bend, stretch, twist, reach, and stand for long periods of time.
  7. Ability to perform general physical activities that require considerable use of hands, arms, legs, and moving whole body, such as climbing, lifting, walking, stooping, handling,

positioning, moving materials, and manipulating items.

  1. Ability to tolerate exposure to temperature extremes.
  2. Ability to complete tasks in a timely manner.

Physical, Environmental, and Work Demands:

Scope and Effect: Cleanliness creates a positive physical appearance of Campus Recreation facilities and promotes a positive environment for students, staff and patrons visiting Campus Recreation.Personal Contacts: Position interacts with a diverse group of students, staff, faculty, and campus visitors while performing daily responsibilities. Some interactions may require conflict resolution. Position requires positive customer service and good stewardship of facilities and equipment.Physical Requirements: Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds. Must be able to operate heavy equipment such as: auto scrubbers and/or mechanical sweepers. Must be able to perform routine area janitorial work and maintain ability to work on feet for duration of an 8-hour shift.Work Environment: Must be able to work in varying temperatures during the season. Snow removal requires working in extremely cold conditions for short durations. Inside of buildings, or outside in case of washing windows, etc. In department areas where individuals are working, work must be done without disturbing occupants, such as washing windows, moving, public function setups and daily janitor work. Occasionally must respond to emergencies, work unscheduled overtime, and perform last minute job order requests. Appointment InformationThis is a 100% full-time Civil Service 4502 - Building Service Worker position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after the posting closes. The Collective Bargaining Agreement sets the starting salary for this position at $20.30 per hour.
