Building Service Worker

Division Intercollegiate Athletics


Under supervision from designated supervisor, provide custodial and maintenance services for athletic facilities such as, but not limited to, sport fields, running tracks, gymnasiums, stadiums, practice areas, and support facilities.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Athletic Facilities Custodial Services

    • Mops, sweeps, and scrubs floors and other surfaces;

    • Operates automatic scrubbers and power sweepers, including rider type, used in connection with building cleaning and provides operator type maintenance;

    • Collects and places debris and recyclable material removed from buildings in containers for removal;

    • Cleans and dusts furniture, tables, exhibit cases, fixtures, windows, doors, trim, and related furnishings;

    • Cleans and services lavatories and restrooms;

    • Provides services for maintenance of carpet floor coverings;

    • Washes and/or cleans window and door glass, washes interior glass, including partitions, framed pictures, and doors;

    • Moves furniture, supplies, and miscellaneous equipment as directed;

    • Cleans, renovates, and renews floor surface finishes;

    • Changes light bulbs and cleans light fixtures, as required;

    • Cleans and polishes furniture;

    • Sweeps or shovels snow from steps and walks at building entrances and connecting walks;

    • Locks and unlocks doors to buildings, classrooms, lecture rooms, or offices. Reports items that need repair; and

    • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Miscellaneous

    • Prepares requisitions for supplies, keeps receipts of goods and materials and maintains inventory of University property.

    • Adheres to the prescribed standards to provide the most suitable working environment for personnel, athletes, event participants and spectators;

    • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Safety and Compliance

    • Insures that safety policies and procedures are followed in maintaining a safe environment for personnel, athletes, event participants and spectators.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions

Position involves exposure to temperature extremes, bending, stretching, twisting, reaching, remaining stationary for long periods, moving about, stooping, handling, positioning, moving materials, manipulating items, climbing, lifting upwards of 50lbs, and performing general physical activities that involve considerable use of hands, arms, legs, and moving the whole body.

Work Schedule, Travel, or Other Job Expectations

This position will be for 11pm - 7am

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.

Possession of a current State of Illinois Driver's License at the time of hire.

    • Ability to comprehend and follow oral instructions;
    • Ability to read and follow written instructions, directions, labeling, and measurements;
    • Ability to complete tasks in a timely manner.

Appointment Information

This is a 100% full-time Civil Service 4502 - Building Service Worker position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 9/14/2026. The collective bargaining agreement sets a range of $42,224 – $54,100.80 for this classification. This position is not eligible for any type of sponsorship of work authorization.
