Pinchin is seeking a Building Science Technologist to join our Building Science & Sustainability team in Dartmouth, NS. The role reports to the Operations Manager.

Department Overview

Pinchin’s Building Science & Sustainability team focuses on evaluating and improving building performance and durability while promoting sustainable practices. We provide expert assessments, restoration solutions, and capital planning to help clients maintain safe, efficient, and cost-effective properties. Our collaborative approach ensures quality, innovation, and environmental responsibility in every project.

Your Role and Action

  • Perform non-invasive building assessments (roofs, cladding, balconies, fenestrations, parking structures)
  • Complete quantity takeoffs and measurements for projects
  • Conduct Baseline Property Condition Assessments & Reserve Fund Studies per ASTM standards
  • Support capital planning based on assessment findings
  • Prepare detailed reports and costing spreadsheets from field data
  • Assist with financial coordination and project management
  • Maintain QA/QC and health & safety protocols
  • Support invasive inspections (ex. Roof cut tests, water / leak tests, etc.), restoration design, and construction reviews

What You’ll Bring to Pinchin

  • College Diploma in Building Science, Architectural/Construction Technology, or Civil Engineering (Bachelor’s preferred)
  • Experience in building construction or maintenance
  • Knowledge of building envelope assemblies and mechanical/electrical systems
  • Ability to read and edit technical specifications, drawings, and reports
  • Strong technical writing skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Valid driver’s license, insurance, and personal vehicle (travel within Nova Scotia and Atlantic Canada)
  • Ability to safely use ladders, hand tools, and PPE
  • Experience with ASTM Property Condition Assessments is an asset
