Building Operator 3
Regular Full-Time
35 hours per week; 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
 Required to work weekends and/or shift rotations as scheduled to meet the operational needs of the Gallery, including statutory holidays and overtime as required or assigned. Required to be on-call, respond to after-hours emergencies, and participate in the Emergency Response Team. Salary Range: $68,595 – $85,685 per annum The Art Gallery of Ontario (AGO) is currently seeking a Building Operator with a tradesperson/millwright skillset and a strong mechanical aptitude to join our Plant Operations team. Under the direction of the Manager, Plant Operations, the incumbent will maintain stable environmental conditions throughout the Gallery for the preservation and safe storage of the collection. They will troubleshoot and repair building-related issues, including but not limited to mechanical, electrical, architectural, plumbing, life safety, elevator, steam, and hot-water boiler systems, as well as their respective auxiliary equipment.What Do We Offer?

 What Is This Position Responsible For? Mechanical Repairs
  • Perform installation, maintenance, inspections, and repairs as required on all AGO mechanical, electrical, HVAC, BAS, fire alarm, lighting, and critical infrastructure systems and related equipment, including but not limited to fans, pumps, air handlers, VAV boxes, heat exchangers, water treatment systems, boilers, chillers, cooling towers, rooftop units, motor bearings, and control components
  • Perform pipefitting and plumbing work; install, repair, and maintain plumbing systems and equipment
  • Ensure all equipment is maintained in good working order
 Automation and Control
  • Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve BAS issues
  • Maintain, service, replace, and/or repair all components of the Siemens Building Automation System, including PC-based front-end systems, hardware, software, field sensors, and pneumatic and electronic devices such as heating/cooling valve actuators, damper actuators, and humidifiers
  • Develop graphics, time-of-day scheduling, and associated modules/components
  • Create and/or modify BAS software to ensure proper operation and control of equipment to meet Gallery requirements
 Life Safety Systems
  • Maintain and service computerized systems and devices associated with the Simplex fire system, including detection equipment, sprinklers, and standpipes
  • Bypass and reinstate devices as required
  • Investigate alarm causes with PSD and reset systems as necessary
  • Clean, test, and replace defective smoke and heat detectors
  • Monitor water and air pressure in wet and dry sprinkler systems
  • Drain and reset dry sprinkler systems following activation
 GE Automated Lighting System
  • Participate in the operation and programming of all aspects of the GE Lighting Control System
  • Program and update lighting schedules in accordance with Gallery activities and energy-saving practices
 Preventive Maintenance
  • Assist in the development of a comprehensive CMMS; participate in planning, data collection, work order execution, and database updates to ensure maximum system optimization
  • Inspect and log mechanical, electrical, and other equipment performance, temperatures, and pressures; communicate issues to the immediate supervisor and recommend procedural improvements
  • Perform both complex and routine plant maintenance, including belt replacement, bearing lubrication, and filter changes
 Other Duties
  • Perform other related duties as required
 Qualifications, Licensing, and Experience
  • Proven hands-on mechanical and electrical repair experience
  • Extensive demonstrated knowledge of hand and power tools
  • Strong ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues promptly and effectively
  • Minimum of five (5) years of related experience in a comparable position within a similar-sized facility
  • Thorough working knowledge of building mechanical, electrical, and automated systems, including related practices and procedures
  • Proficiency with relevant computer systems
  • Strong knowledge of WHMIS, safety regulations, and safe work practices
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision as well as collaboratively in a team environment
  • Commitment to company safety and housekeeping standards
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to maintain productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated commitment to service excellence
 Preferred Certifications and Licenses (one or more):
  • Ontario 3rd Class Stationary Engineer’s License
  • Ontario Refrigeration Class B License
  • Ontario Building Environmental Systems (BES) Operator Class I
  • Ontario Skilled Trade License (e.g., Electrician, Millwright, Plumber, Steamfitter)
