Building Operations Supervisor (part-time 28 hrs./wk.)
The Building Operations Supervisor is part-time staff position. This person is personally responsible for cleaning the BYU ARTS Building and for supporting area related events. They inspect the work levels and effectiveness (mentoring) of student employment daily and are responsible for teaching positive work ethics by working side by side with them. They also follow all training, safety and university policies and procedures. They maintain quality customer relations and are a positive example of university citizenship.
This person is responsible for following the direction of the Area Operations Manager and Building Operations Managers. They are expected to support and contribute to department-wide activities, policies and programs.
Assigned Schedule: 5:00am - 10:30am Monday-Friday
What you’ll do in this position:
- Responsible for the cleanliness of assigned work area through organizing and supervising part-time employees using approved cleaning methods and techniques.
- Mentor, teach, train, and motivate part-time and student employees while instilling in them a service attitude through being an example of positive work ethic.
- Responsible for personally working with student crews during their work shift to assist with problems, answer questions, direct cleaning and teach positive work ethics by working alongside student employees.
- Maintaining and updating records as assigned.
- Communicates and provides public relations for the buildings they service.
- Inspect buildings daily to check effectiveness of cleaning crews and to determine future needs. Contact building patrons on as needed to determine customer satisfaction and to assist them with any concerns or problems they have.
- Maintain complete and accurate records as assigned.
- Improves job and leadership skills through personal development training and involvement with departmental activities.
- Follow department and university policies and procedures, supporting the manager’s directions, attending department functions and safety meetings, and being an excellent example of department, university and church citizenship.
What qualifies you for this role:
Required:
- A firm commitment to the mission of BYU
- High school diploma or GED Equivalent
Preferred:
- 1 year of building care and/or supervisory experience
Physical Exam and Lift Test Required
Physical Effort
- Moderate – Physical effort represented by frequent handling of medium weight objects (approx. 20-50 lbs.) and materials, or use of medium weight hand tools. May require climbing and working from ladders or in awkward positions. (Elaborate below)

- Frequent exposure to unfavorable conditions such as all-weather, or working in cramped, very dirty, or unpleasant quarters (Elaborate below)

Physical Requirements
- Perform tasks such as lifting tables, chairs, riser stairs, climbing ladders for cleaning, changing light bulbs, etc. for 6–8 hours per day. Closed-toe shoes and gloves are recommended for safety
- Participate in snow removal as needed. Appropriate cold-weather gear is recommended, including a hat, gloves, boots, layered clothing, and sunscreen
- Operate equipment such as vacuums, running floor machines, buffers, genie lift, and loaders as required. Eye and hearing protection, closed-toe shoes, and gloves are recommended
- Exposure to cleaning chemicals. Eye protection, closed-toe shoes, and gloves are required

Pay Grade: 46
Typical Starting Pay: $16.50 to $21.25 an hour
