What this job involves:

The Lab Services Media Prep Technician plays a critical role in supporting life science research operations by ensuring the precise preparation, sterilization, and delivery of chemical and biological media essential to experimental success. This position operates within a regulated GXP environment, maintaining strict compliance with federal, state, and local regulations while executing laboratory service functions that directly enable research teams to advance their work. Working collaboratively in a quality-driven, team-based environment, you'll manage the complete lifecycle of media orders—from calculation and documentation through autoclaving, labeling, and timely delivery—while maintaining the sterile operations infrastructure that keeps our laboratory running efficiently and safely.

What your day-to-day will look like:

  • Prepare chemical and biological media orders from start to finish, including performing accurate calculations, completing GXP documentation, autoclaving, labeling, and delivering sensitive formulations to research staff according to established schedules and procedures

  • Sterilize laboratory materials including glassware, media containers, bioreactors, protective clothing, and other equipment required for sterile operations using appropriate sterilization methods and protocols

  • Neutralize, disassemble, clean, and reassemble bioreactors for ongoing use, ensuring all components meet sterility and operational standards

  • Fulfill buffer and media orders, coordinate waste removal requests, and maintain supply inventory levels by monitoring stock and initiating reorder processes to prevent operational disruptions

  • Communicate proactively with supervisors regarding supply levels, material needs, equipment calibrations, software upgrades, deviations from standard procedures, and scheduling adjustments

  • Execute all work according to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), maintain compliance with Lean 6S principles and GXP documentation requirements, and support other lab services operations as needed

  • Operate vehicles as required to transport materials between facilities, maintaining a valid New Jersey driver's license and completing all necessary vehicle operation training

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in life science, biology, chemistry, or equivalent work experience in a laboratory environment

  • Proficiency in computer programs and systems commonly used in laboratory settings for documentation, inventory management, and order fulfillment

  • Strong mathematical skills with demonstrated ability to perform accurate calculations for formulation preparation

  • Proven ability to work independently with minimal supervision while maintaining attention to detail, safety protocols, and quality standards

  • Physical capability to lift, bend, and move in ways necessary to safely perform job tasks and operate required laboratory equipment

  • Valid New Jersey driver's license with the ability to complete appropriate vehicle training as applicable

  • Commitment to strict adherence to safety procedures, including proper use of personal protective equipment when working with potentially hazardous chemical and biological agents

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Prior knowledge and hands-on experience working in a regulated GXP environment within pharmaceutical, medical device, or other life science industries

  • Demonstrated experience in a safe, team-based, high-performance, quality-driven laboratory or manufacturing environment

  • Familiarity with autoclave operation, sterile technique, and cleanroom protocols

  • Experience with inventory management systems and supply chain coordination in laboratory settings
