Job Description

Performs routine troubleshooting, maintenance and repair to plumbing, electrical, HVAC, security systems, and other county facilities. Reports to the Facilities Maintenance Supervisor or other designated person and works with co-workers to provide skilled maintenance and repair services. Position will require being on call for work after hours and on weekends.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND PERFORMANCE STANDARDS:

  • Assists skilled trades person(s) with various maintenance related tasks; addresses immediate operational and/or safety concerns; ensures materials, tools and needed equipment are maintained in good working order and available when needed.
  • Assists in maintaining the supply inventory; prepares materials list for assigned projects and needed tools; contributes to ensure a clean and safe shop area and work zone.
  • Accurately documents work performed via assigned work order reports. Provides work details (completed/in progress) in a timely fashion to assigned supervisor.
  • Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Qualifications

Education: High school diploma or GED equivalency.

Experience: One (1) year in maintenance of residential or commercial properties preferred. A combination of education and/or work experience may be substituted for minimum requirements.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:

  • Considerable knowledge of plumbing, electrical, carpentry and HVAC repair methods and standards.
  • Familiarity with standard practices, tools, terminology and safety practices of the trade.
  • Mastery of tools and equipment used in maintenance and repair work.
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently

Special Requirements:

  • May require working in or accessing a secure facility. Employee shall meet and maintain the security requirements/clearance set by the Sheriff’s Office or relevant agency.

Licensing/Certification:

  • Possession of a valid driver’s license with good driving history. If State license is other than Georgia or South Carolina, applicant must obtain a license in Georgia or South Carolina within 30 days of employment.

Other:

  • This position requires staff call up in an emergency situation.
  • Travel from office to other locations is required more than 50% of the time.

  • Physical Abilities: Tasks require the regular and, at times, sustained performance of moderately physically demanding work, typically involving some combination of climbing and balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling, and that may involve the lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials (20-50 pounds).
  • Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate colors or shades of colors, sounds, taste, odor, depth, texture, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.
