ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include any of the following representative duties, knowledge, and skills. Essential duties and responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Performs routine maintenance of all city facilities to minimize repair costs and ensure the safety and comfort of the employees and citizens; makes plumbing repairs, electrical, HVAC, drywall, floor tile, Formica, painting, concrete and masonry repairs.

  • Assists more experience technicians in performing skilled repair and remodeling work, of varying degrees of complexity at various city facilities to ensure work areas for all employees and the general public are efficient and free of hazards.

  • Assists in the repair and construction of various types of furniture to allow for customization of employee work areas, to more efficiently utilize space and funds, and help improve productivity. This includes work surfaces, shelves, cabinets, handrails, picture frames, and desks.

  • Ensures the operation of all mechanical items including safety lock systems, fire door alarms, smoke detectors, door closures, and door locking mechanisms, which allow employees to have a feeling of being safe and secure.

  • Operates light machinery and equipment such as forklifts and light tractors as required to provide for expeditious completion of projects and to reduce labor and equipment costs.

  • Operates and maintains a variety of mechanical tools and equipment such as power saws, sanders, drills, air compressors, paint sprayers, and various other hand tools required for maintenance work.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education, training and Experience Guidelines

High School diploma or equivalent. One (1) year of full-time work experience in basic construction and facility maintenance. OR Any equivalent combination of experience, training, and/or education that provides the required knowledge, skills or abilities.

Knowledge of:

  • Basic construction and facility maintenance techniques to include carpentry, electrical plumbing, HVAC, and other associated construction skills.

Skill in:

  • Reading and comprehending warning labels, road signs, safety instructions, and work orders.

  • Establishing and maintaining effective working relationships.

  • Communicating effectively, both orally and in writing.

  • Comprehending and following instructions, oral and written.

  • Measuring and calculating distance, area, volume, perform conversations (e.g., from inches to feet).

  • Interpreting safety policies and procedures for light construction.

  • Diagnosing problems and making correct determinations.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Valid Class "C" Texas driver’s license

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING ENVIRONMENT

Standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, reaching, handling, fine dexterity, kneeling, crouching, crawling, bending, twisting, climbing, balancing, vision, hearing, talking, use of foot controls.

Exposure to weather extremes, noise and physical hazard of power tools; dust and heavy lifting.

Hiring Range: $18.36 - $23.00, hourly.
