Job Description

Maintenance Technician

The Maintenance Technician plays a key role in ensuring our buildings remain safe, functional, and welcoming. This position works both independently and as part of a team, collaborating with other trades and staff. Strong customer service, proactive communication, initiative, and teamwork are essential, in addition to solid technical skills.

Key Responsibilities:

Safety & Compliance

  • Follow all legislated and company safety regulations.
  • Safely operate tools and equipment; use required PPE.
  • Inspect facilities, test equipment, and report unsafe conditions.
  • Ensure tenant and coworker safety; protect belongings when working in suites.

Maintenance & Repairs

  • Complete work orders such as appliance troubleshooting, minor A/C or water heater repairs, and general building fixes.
  • Perform small projects including painting, carpentry, plumbing, preventative maintenance, flooring, and cleaning tasks.
  • Plan and organize more advanced work orders as needed.
  • Keep work areas clean and follow SOPs for quality and timely completion.
  • Assist with training new staff when required.

Customer Service

  • Communicate clearly and respectfully with tenants, managers, caretakers, and contractors.

Reporting & Administration

  • Use a smartphone for communication and documenting work.
  • Submit purchase order requests for supplies and tools.
  • Complete basic logs and documentation.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements

  • Minimum 3 years of building maintenance experience with exposure to trades such as electrical, plumbing, carpentry, or mechanical.
  • Ability to work independently and manage priorities.
  • Experience with Yardi is an asset.
  • Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
  • Ability to maintain a clear Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check.
  • Willingness to work occasional hours outside regular schedule and participate in on-call rotation.
  • Physical ability to stand or walk for extended periods and lift up to 50 kg.
  • Basic computer/smartphone skills.
