ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Building Maintenance Specialist performs skilled carpentry work to include the layout, repair, renovation, construction, and maintenance of temporary and permanent buildings and structures. This position is classified as an Essential Services Employee. Essential Services Employees maintain business operations for UT Health Science Center and support the physical operations and safety of the campus. This role involves performing various operations and services essential to maintain critical infrastructure and ensuring continuous operations.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Completes assigned carpentry maintenance and repair tasks with quality workmanship by inspecting the work site to determine the materials, equipment, tool requirements, and method to be used.
Develops a plan or layout for the project or follows a blueprint, sketch or schematic; assembles, fabricates or builds and installs materials, equipment, or fixtures as required by the scope of work.
Performs and directs skilled carpentry work in the construction, maintenance, repair, remodeling and alteration of rooms, offices and facilities according to work orders or verbal instructions.
Restores office areas and facilities to their original condition at the completion of work by removing debris, scaffolding, and equipment used during the project.
Installs floor coverings such as ceramic, VCT, and LVT tiles, carpet squares, laminate wood, and wall base.
Installs finished hardware such as door locks, hinges, and door checks.
Performs other related duties as assigned
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED. (TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
EXPERIENCE: Two (2) years of professional and relevant work experience in commercial and/ or residential construction; OR a combination of education, training, and experience. Must have a valid Driver’s License. (Forklift certification preferred). (One (1) year of commercial construction experience preferred.)
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Ability to utilize iPad and other technical devices to submit work ticket requests through computer-based maintenance software such as Archibus.
Ability to operate equipment such as airless spray equipment, scaffolding, rigging and motorized lifts.
Ability to use mechanized high-reach equipment to renew caulking on exterior building panel seams, windows, and doors.
Ability to patch, prepare, and level floors.
Ability to frame drop ceilings, install drywall, and construct minor buildings or small additions to existing structures.
Ability to use brushes, rollers and/or sprayers to paint buildings, areas, equipment, and furniture.
WORK SCHEDULEThis position may frequently be required to work evenings and weekends. May require occasional overnight travel.
