He angitūtanga: The Opportunity

There is an opportunity available for a customer focused individual to join our Building Consent Department. Educating and assisting our customers through the building consent process.

The Building Consent department ensures safe, sustainable building for Aucklanders and makes it easier to build compliant developments in the Auckland region. The department has a strong customer centric focus with emphasis on service and delivery.

This is a busy role where you will deal with a high volume of calls & emails to provide customers with accurate information in relation to their building queries.

We are seeking someone with an understanding of the importance of providing effective guidance and information for the consenting process, ensuring that our services are delivered in compliance with statutory requirements. Customer guidance and information support includes, but is not limited to:

  • Managing customer calls and emails providing effective guidance information for building related matters aligned with our consenting processes.
  • Managing processes to support our LBP (Licenced Building Practitioners), Producer statement author registers and IQPs (Independent Qualified Practitioners) and more.
  • Providing support for core end-to-end process management within the team.
  • Maintaining effective stakeholder relationships across different units and departments within Auckland Council.

He kōrero mōu: About you

We are seeking someone who can research and interpret the Building Act, Building Code, and other related policies to provide accurate and reliable information to our customers.

The ideal candidate will have at least 3-4 years of experience in administration and customer service (preferably phone-based), including 2-3 years of providing technical advice. Previous experience in the building industry is preferred but not essential, as training will be provided. Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, along with strong interpersonal abilities, are essential.

This role would suit someone who prides themselves on their excellent customer service skills and enjoys dealing with a variety of people. You will be part of an established, supportive team and get a solid grounding for the Building Consent Department.


We will be looking for specific experience with these key role requirements:

  • Detail oriented, customer focused, and committed to maintaining a high standard of accuracy in all tasks.
  • Proven ability to train and upskill peers in line with internal policies and procedures.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and meet deadlines.
  • A previous background in regulatory and knowledge of the Building Act 2004 is desirable.
  • Building technical training / Previous trade expertise advantageous

Salary range $65,000 - $69,000 (based on skillset and experience)

KiwiSaver contribution is in addition to base salary
