Trident Technical College is seeking a dedicated Building & Grounds Manager to lead the planning, maintenance, and beautification of campus landscapes and building exteriors across all college locations. This role provides leadership to the grounds team, manages service contracts, and ensures safe, welcoming, and well-maintained outdoor environments that support students, employees, and visitors.
This position reports to Facilities leadership and plays a key role in emergency preparedness and response.
Key Responsibilities
  • Lead, supervise, and train grounds staff to maintain safe, clean, and visually appealing campus landscapes and building exteriors
  • Plan and oversee routine and long-term maintenance of green spaces, hardscapes, walkways, parking areas, rooftops, signage, lighting, ponds, and wetlands
  • Develop and implement campus beautification, sustainability, and conservation initiatives, including wetland mitigation efforts
  • Manage service contracts, including writing specifications, monitoring performance, and coordinating inspections
  • Conduct site and roof inspections; prepare work orders, maintenance plans, and budget estimates
  • Hire, evaluate, and discipline staff as needed; maintain position descriptions and training documentation
  • Maintain accurate records and reports; manage purchasing card and credit card transactions in compliance with college policies
  • Serve as essential personnel for emergency preparedness and response, including after-hours and weekend on-call rotations
  • Perform other related duties as assigned

Examples of duties

This position requires an associate degree in horticulture or a closely related field, along with at least three (3) years of managerial or supervisory experience directly related to grounds or landscape operations. A valid South Carolina driver’s license is required. The selected candidate must possess, or be able to obtain and maintain within one year of hire, a South Carolina pesticide license/Commercial Grounds Applicator license.

Qualifications

Preferred candidates will have a bachelor’s degree in a related field and experience maintaining large, diverse landscapes such as college campuses, resorts, wetlands, or golf courses. The ideal candidate will have working knowledge of landscape engineering and design principles, groundskeeping and maintenance standards, relevant safety practices, and personnel, procurement, and budgeting practices within state government. Experience with on-the-job training and staff development is also desirable. Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and customer service skills are essential for success in this role.
