This is a remote position. Building Energy Simulation Specialist 30 hours per week $13AUD/hour Job Summary We are seeking an experienced Building Energy Simulation Specialist to build, run, and interpret energy models for residential, commercial, and mixed-use building projects. This role is focused on simulation: modelling building geometry, envelope, HVAC, and operating conditions to assess performance, demonstrate compliance, and inform design decisions. We're particularly interested in candidates with hands-on experience in Section J JV3 performance solution modelling for the Australian National Construction Code, using tools such as DesignBuilder, IES VE, Better Buildings, or Speckle , and/or NatHERS residential thermal performance modelling with Hero, FR5 or similar . Experience with full building energy/rating modelling for NABERS, Green Star, LEED, or BREEAM is also highly regarded. Key Responsibilities Energy Simulation & Modelling · Build detailed building energy models covering geometry, construction/envelope, occupancy, lighting, equipment and HVAC systems · Run simulations to assess energy consumption, thermal performance, and compliance against NCC Section J (DTS and JV3 performance pathways) and/or NatHERS requirements. · Undertake JV3 reference-building and proposed-building comparative modelling to demonstrate NCC energy-efficiency compliance. · Undertake NatHERS star-rating assessments for residential dwellings. · Undertake full building energy modelling to support sustainability rating submissions (NABERS, Green Star) · Perform sensitivity analysis and compare design options (glazing, insulation, shading, thermal mass, HVAC systems, orientation) to optimise simulated performance. · Interpret simulation outputs and translate results into clear compliance findings and design recommendations. Reporting · Prepare JV3, NatHERS, and rating-scheme (eg NABERS, Green Star) reports and supporting documentation. · Document modelling assumptions, inputs, methodology, and results clearly enough for certifier and peer review. · Maintain accurate, well-organised modelling files across projects. Required Qualifications & Experience · Degree or relevant qualification in Mechanical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, Energy Engineering, Environmental Engineering, Architecture, or a related discipline. · Demonstrated experience running building energy simulations (commercial and/or residential). · Strong understanding of building physics, thermal performance, and HVAC fundamentals. · Ability to interpret architectural and engineering drawings and extract modelling-relevant data. · Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical skills. · Strong written and verbal English communication. · Ability to work independently in a remote environment. Preferred Experience · Hands-on JV3 modelling experience for Australian NCC Section J compliance (using DesignBuilder, IES, Better Buildings, Speckle or the like). · Hands-on NatHERS modelling experience for residential dwellings using FirstRate5, HERO, or equivalent software. · Full building energy modelling experience for NABERS, Green Star, LEED, or BREEAM submissions. · Experience with daylight modelling and other building performance-related simulations · Experience working with Australian engineering or ESD consultancies.
