Job Description

We are working closely with Wirral MBC to assist with the appointment of a Building Control Surveyor, on a 3-month contract, highly likely to be extended at clients discretion. Please apply with your CV for immediate consideration.

Rate of Pay: £21.44 - £28.29 per hour

Summary:

The Building Control Surveyor will be responsible for assessing building regulation applications, undertaking site inspections, providing professional advice and ensuring compliance with Building Regulations and associated legislation. The role also involves dealing with dangerous structures, unauthorised works and enforcement matters to protect public safety.

Responsibilities:

• Undertake inspections and take appropriate action to protect the public from dangerous structures, unauthorised works, demolition work and obstructions to public highways.
• Participate in an out-of-hours emergency call-out rota, providing a 24-hour rapid response service for dangerous structure incidents across the borough.
• Check and assess applications for compliance with Building Regulations and associated legislation, ensuring they are processed efficiently and within statutory timescales.
• Carry out statutory and other site inspections relating to building plans and building notices.
• Liaise with builders, property owners and other stakeholders to ensure that materials, construction methods and practices comply with current legislation and codes of practice.
• Undertake enforcement procedures in line with the Council's policies, including preparing reports and statements and attending court as a witness when required.

Essentials:

• Experience or understanding of the Building Control function and relevant building legislation.
• Sound knowledge of Building Regulations, Approved Documents and technical guidance associated with Building Control.
• Competent IT skills, including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook, and the ability to use specialist back-office systems.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills, with a customer-focused and quality-driven approach.
• Awareness of relevant health and safety legislation and the ability to work safely.
