Job Description

POSITION PURPOSE: This position performs budgetary, accounting, and position control functions for the Finance Department while maintaining accurate budget and financial records for Beaufort County School District. The role helps ensure staffing allocations, funding sources, and approved budgets are properly aligned and supports financial reporting, reconciliation, and compliance with district, state, and federal requirements. The position also assists district departments with budget-related and general support to ensure accurate, timely financial information is available for current and future decision-making. Work is performed under general supervision and requires independent judgment and initiative.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Perform accounting calculations and analyze financial data to prepare statements, schedules, ledgers, and routine and special reports for district leadership, the Board of Education, auditors, and state agencies.
  • Input, review, and reconcile general ledger entries and assigned accounts, including cash accounts; identify and resolve discrepancies in a timely manner.
  • Audit accounts for compliance with internal controls, district policies, and applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Use the district's position control system to ensure all positions are accurately recorded and aligned with approved budgets and funding sources.
  • Monitor and reconcile staffing levels across schools and departments to ensure consistency with authorized staffing plans, budget allocations, and funding availability.
  • Review, verify, and maintain funding sources and account codes for all positions; update position records in the financial system in coordination with Human Resources.
  • Process and track personnel allocation changes throughout the fiscal year, maintaining complete documentation and required approvals.
  • Collect, classify, and analyze financial and staffing data; generate reports on allocations, vacancies, and position funding to support the annual budget development process.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources, school administrators, and department leaders to ensure accuracy of budget and staffing data; respond to inquiries, provide guidance, and develop training materials as needed.



ADDITIONAL DUTIES: Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Director of Budget, the Chief Financial Officer, Superintendent or other district office administrator as designated by the Superintendent.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Requires an Associate's Degree or specialized courses/training equivalent to satisfactory completion of two years of college in accounting, finance, business, or a closely related field.


EXPERIENCE:

  • Requires two years of experience in budgeting, accounting, position control or a related field; governmental experience is preferred.
  • Knowledge of accounting rules, regulation, policies and procedures that is reflective of the governmental finance industry.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to maintain, analyze, and reconcile financial and staffing data.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively across departments.
  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office and financial software systems.

  • Utilizes standard office equipment including computers, financial software systems, printers, copiers, and calculators.
