Job Description

Superior Water, Light and Power (SWL&P), an ALLETE company, provides electricity, water, and natural gas to customers in Superior, Wisconsin, and adjacent areas. Its offices are in Superior in northwestern Wisconsin across the St. Louis River from Duluth, Minnesota, where ALLETE is headquartered. SWL&P has served this region for more than 130 years and today has 15,000 electric customers, 13,000 natural gas customers and 10,000 water customers. RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Prepare, monitor, revise and report on assigned Company budgets and actual expenditures relative to those budgets, ensuring budget integrity for regulatory purposes and effective resource management.
  • Develop and maintain reporting formats and procedures, updating existing systems as needed.
  • Review and analyze budget data, recommending changes to align with company policies and best practices.
  • Research and implement new technologies, systems, and methods to improve budgeting processes.
  • Consolidate and update budgetary procedures to enhance efficiency and accuracy.
  • Ensure all report preparation meets operational and reporting requirements.
  • Provide training and support to department staff and other employees on budgeting and accounting practices.
  • Perform administrative responsibilities to support department requirements.
  • Learn and utilize various software systems, including PowerPlant, Oracle, Maximo, Microsoft Teams, etc.

REQUIRED EDUCATION:

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or equivalent.
    • If equivalent, must have taken related accounting courses.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • Four years or more job related experience.*
    • A Master's degree in Business Administration is equal to a year's experience

SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • This position may be considered for a hybrid work arrangement based on ALLETE’s needs. A Hybrid work arrangement means the employee's position will be a blend of work performed both in-person and at an offsite location such as an employee's home office. This position will report to Superior, WI.
  • Requires excellent interpersonal skills to establish and maintain productive working relationships.
  • This position may be subject to assessment of skills, job match and/or aptitude.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS:

  • The expected annual compensation range for this position is $67,000 - $84,000. Compensation offered to the selected candidate will vary depending on relevant knowledge, skills, training, experience, and market conditions.
