You are responsible for advising, representing, and supporting the Management of the HFS Business Unit in Europe in the implementation and adaptation of the HFS Business Unit’s EHS (Environment, Health & Safety) management system. This system is designed to control, prevent, and manage risks related to working conditions, employee health and safety, and environmental protection across the various sites in Europe.You are part of the EU Aero leadership Team.
You ensure that site EHS policies and practices comply with HFS/Howmet internal standards as well as local regulations, procedures, and legal requirements.
You provide recommendations and monitor action plans initiated by the sites to improve workplace conditions and enhance safety within the professional environment.
Activities include:
• Advise, represent, and support the BU General Management in Europe in the implementation and adaptation of the HFS Business Unit’s EHS (Environment, Health & Safety) management system across the various sites.
• Assist sites in implementing and adapting the HFS BU’s overall EHS policy and management system in line with evolving standards, regulations, and business needs.
• Provide guidance and support to EHS Managers and Site Directors.
• Guide sites in identifying, prioritizing, and implementing required actions (including the HFS global initiative to reduce greenhouse gas emissions) and monitor their progress.
• Establish continuous improvement plans with the support of site teams and resources, in alignment with Business Unit directives.
• Conduct regular internal audits to identify gaps and non-conformities against internal and external standards and ensure proper execution of ASAT protocols.
• Support Corporate internal audit activities and assist in the implementation and follow-up of resulting action plans.
• Verify that development projects (new activities, products, processes, etc.) adequately incorporate EHS requirements.
• Organize, coordinate, and maintain regulatory compliance monitoring in collaboration with other EHS function members within the Division.
• Promote occupational health, safety, and environmental policies among all employees through communication campaigns, awareness initiatives, and training programs.
• Represent the company, when required, with stakeholders, competent authorities, and professional organizations.
You are also involved in global BU projects/initiatives, ensure the company meets both internal standards and external regulatory parameters, as well as promote prevention and sustainability initiatives across operations in all aspects of EH&S.
Key Responsibilities:
• Ensure compliance with country, regional, and local regulations and standards (e.g., OSHA, EPA, …).
• Develop and maintain Safety (risk assessment and mitigations) policies, procedures, programs and initiatives with focus on risk prevention, comprehensive root cause analysis, and sustainable robust engineered solutions;
• Understand and manage potential Health exposures and controls (IH), as well as apply directives to minimize or eliminate potential hazards;
• Knowledge and familiarity with Environmental regulatory parameters (waste management, water usage, air quality, and chemical handling);
• Conduct investigations, inspections, audits and risk assessments to identify gaps and areas for improvement.
• Actively participate in formulating new initiatives, best practices and driving sustainable change.
• Serve as the primary liaison between HFS sites and for various EHS corporate councils and / or governing agencies to keep apprise of both company and regulatory requirements
• Lead the development and execution of Business Unit and corporate initiatives
• Monitor and drive performance metrics and prepare detailed reports for internal and external stakeholders.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate Environmental, Health & Safety environmental considerations into business operations and decision-making, especially related to environmental matters, such as the management of permits, records, and documentation.
• Train and develop new and existing EHS talent
Qualifications:
-Master's degree in EHS related discipline, Environmental Sciences, or a related field.
-7+ years of experience in EHS applied function, including environmental compliance, sustainability, or related roles.
-Strong applied knowledge of both Safety, Health and Environmental regulations and standards.
-Experience conducting audits and managing regulatory reporting.
-Excellent project management, communication, and problem-solving skills.
-Relevant certifications (e.g., CSP, CIH, ISO 14001, CHMM, CES,..) are a plus.
Preferred Skills:
-Experience in manufacturing settings. Exposure to large/multi sites/international companies.
-Familiarity with Incident Management Systems, compliance calendar, environmental management systems (EMS) and sustainability reporting frameworks.
-Ability to analyze data and develop actionable insights.
-Ability to travel on a regular basis and jump in as needed in case of crisis to support Operations locally.
